Ohio Woman First To Swim Length Of Allegheny River
kdka.com - Young Woman First To Swim Across Allegheny River
I'm surprised there wasn't more fanfare for this, and her, especially with how "green" Pittsburgh is going. And come on, she is the first! Apparentely there was some showing of support of her and her cause, but I thought there should have been a lot more. They should have made it part of Pittsburgh 250 or something.

Seems pretty silly to me unless it was upstream.

In December of '09 I'm planning on rowing across the Atlantic Ocean," she said. I'm planning on setting off from West Africa to South America, 2,000 mile row.

Now that would be impressive.

The Allegheny begins in PA but flows north into New York before turning south and flowing all the way to Pittsburgh to join with the Mon creating the Mighty Ohio. There are some who believe that the Allegheny should be the Head Waters of the Misssissippi. I have not seen any docs related to that in many years but I did read that at one time. This simply means that the confluence of the Ohio was more of a Mon flowing into the Allegheny and not the other. Same goes for where the Ohio meets the Mississippi, where the Ohio looks to be the dominant body of water. Way back in the day of the American Indian, they thought rightfully that the Ohio and the Allegheny were one River.
Regardless of actual geographic states, the girl swimming the length of the Allegheny is in deed quite a feat. Swimming from the very beginning taking breaks along the way would be quite physcially challenging. Very Impressive.

Did our 250th anniversary start yet? I thought TV stations would make logos incorporating that into them and give us something to be proud about aside from the Steelers and how much beer we can drink. Renaissance 1 & 2 were promoted all the time even though they were big failures from the getgo. I was looking forward to this and now I have no idea why. The city doesn't know how to promote itself even to the people who love it.
Yes, that gal should have gotten a lot of news coverage. It's nice when something can break up the monotony of 20 minutes of weather news, repetitive sports tapes and recapsulizing the previous stories of the week. Caution., boy mayor is sleeping, again.

Swim the Mon
It'd be funny if someone swam the Mon. Imagine all the weird skin diseases and stuff that they would get.
Not that the Allegheny is exactly clean either, but still...the Mon is a cesspool. Thank you Andrew Carnegie!

The fact that she wore a Cleveland Browns swimsuit did not endear herself to the locals.
