Just curious how much you spend on utilities in Pittsburgh? I want to firgure all my costs while comtemplating this move from California. What do you spend on average for a 3-4 bedroom home for electric, gas, and water? Here in Cali I spend 300 bucks for the electric a month. Especially in the summer. With 100+ weather everyday it is too hot not to turn on the a/c. Do you run the heat non-stop all winter-if so how are the bills? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

There are so many variables here it is virtually impossible to give an accurate response.
For example:
-What's the age of the house/amount of insulation?
-How many people people in the house? All day? Just at night?
-Are you careful about turning out the lights out when you leave the rooms?
-Compact flourescents vs. regular bulbs?
-Number of showers/loads of laundry per week/month?
-Thermostat setting in winter/summer - turn down at night?
-Sprinkler sytem?

A lot of your energy bill depends on your lifestyle. That being said, I have a 100+ year old 4 BR house with some insulation, and my gas bill is around $250/mo. on the budget, electric bill around $100, and water/sewage/garbage bill around $60. I've been hearing that gas bills are going up (again!) significantly this winter

I agree that it depends on the house and # of ppl...but I will tell you my situation to give you a ballpark:

House: 3 BR brick, 2 story, original (read drafty as heck) windows, but we "plastic" them in the winter. Radiator gas heat. No central air, but use window units. Dryer is gas, as is hot water heater. Right now just husband and I...

Electric= $50-80, higher in summer, hehe not this summer though!!
Gas= budget plan at $280, but they just raised it a little over $300.
Water= $45
Trash=$33 every 3 mos
Cable (phone, internet, HBO/SHO, HDTV Digital)= $200
