I don't think Washington is quite what you are looking for. It doesn't quite have the "cute Victorian" aura that you have indicated you want. It's more like a little more economically depressed area, not known for it's cute houses, no quaint downtown district, etc. I think you'd be better off looking in other places.

Thanks for that My only concern is that Sewickley may be too small. Even though I like "charm", we do also tend to like convenience. ie; I don't want to have to drive 30 minutes to get to a Super Wal-Mart or not even have the option to order pizza. I guess I could make my own.
Are there any part of the city off Pitts. that have more of a quaint feel or towns around it of 10-20,000 people?

Check out Oakmont
A place which sounds just like what you're looking for is Oakmont. The only issue is it may be more than 20 minutes during rush hour from the North Side. Off-peak you could certainly do it in 20 minutes, but during rush hour it might be more like 30. Anyways, Oakmont is a lovely small town up the Allegheny River with a main street, shops, restaurants, a small indie theatre, a great bakery and a beautiful park right on the river. There are a number of well-maintained Victorian homes. Check it out.

Sewickley is only about a 15 minute drive from the huge shopping mecca in Robinson where they have EVERYTHING you could ever need.

Oops, forgot to mention in my earlier message anything about ice skating. There is no ice skating within the "Village" proper, however, there is a place called the RMU Island Sports Center/Fitness Center and it is located in neighboring community Neville Island (about a 8-15 minute drive from Sewickley) which offers ice skating and other fitness activities year round. I've been told members of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team often practice on the ice at the center. The sports center is a huge dome-like structure with lots of parking and it is also accessible by public transportation from Sewickley. You can call them or Google them for additional information.
Hope this helps!

PIZZA and Other Eating Places: Not to worry, there are three places within the Village of Sewickley that offer pizza. Within a 10-20 drive in different directions, you would find numerous pizza places in Leetsdale, Ambridge, Moon Township, Coraopolis, Bellevue. There are about nine (??) sit down/take out/delivery restaurants within Sewickey proper and more than two hundred additional eateries if you were to take it a drive of 30 minutes away in any direction.
Costco, Super Kmart, Walmart, and Sam's Club are located at Robinson Town Centre shopping areas - 15-25 minutes away on Route 60. There is another Sam's Club located on the far outskirts of Sewickley on Mt. Nebo Road. There are lots of shopping areas too numerous to remember the locations; but other larger shopping malls include Ross Park Mall (has Nordstroms and Tiffany's opening up soon - it's generally classified as upscale mall shopping), South Side Works (located on Pittsburgh's South Side), Cranberry Mall and nearby shopping strips (located in neighboring Butler County) - also has Costco, Walmart, numerous shopping strips along McKnight Road in the North Hills area and in the Robinson area, South Hills Village in Pittsburgh's Mt. Lebanon neighborhood, BeaverValley Mall in neighboring Beaver County is a popular shopping area. The Strip District in downtown Pittsburgh offers a foodies paradise of international food shopping and eating. If you want to travel a bit for outlet shopping, there are three locations I can think of right now -- Prime Outlets at Grove City, Tanger in Washington County (just opened up in late August 2008), and Pittsburgh Mills in Tarentum.
Don't forget -- Ohio and West Virginia are neighboring states and you would be a hop, skip and a jump from more shopping and siteseeing!
Whew!

There is also ice skating in Brady's Run Park. I'm not sure how far that is from Sewickley, but not more than a 1/2 hr drive.

No worries. Practical_Lady, when we know more, Sewickley is still first place to check out. If there are that many things within a short drive, I'm not so concerned about the size of it.
