Umm so I am considering moving back to pittsburgh. I used to live there for a few years 1988-1990.
I have been living in mostly southern california since then.

I have not seen pittsburgh since late 1990. I heard it's more modernized now? I used to live in the suburbs, but we would go all over the city often...

When I lived in pittsburgh I was in fifth and sixth grade. I did have good memories of it - and it was my first time living in the east.

The cold didn't bother me so much...

My memories of pittsburgh were fine ones, and the people seemed decent and down to earth.

Anyhow, I am really sick of Los Angeles and all the bs that goes with it and have considered relocating to pittsburgh and starting a new life.

(Possibly transferring my job to a location out there and going back to school, or starting a new career.)

The cost of living is lower in pittsburgh than southern california right?

What is the economic climate out there?
Are people overall happy living there?

thanks for reading!

I don't go into the city much so may not be much help. I live just south of the city near Bridgeville. I work in a local restaurant.

I see a lot of improvements being made by local communities. Cannonsburg is really sprucing things up.There is a lot of building going on in the area. Many new housing plans and offices. So the economy is not too bad as far as I can tell. We just had a huge new mall open up at Medowlands which, along with the casino, should bea big draw for consumers. The place I work has had steady busi9ness all summer. Not as busy as in years past though so the economy is having an effect but overall I think we are more stable than many other places.

I moved here from CT about 10 years ago. I have no regrets. The cost of living is lower than CT so I have to immagine it is much much lower than in CA. Of course corespondingly so are the incomes.

Hope I could be some help. Maybe someone will come alonmg who lives int he city who can help you out furthur.

Yes, the cost of living is much, much, much, much less in southwestern PA than Southern California. The economy is not bad, but could be better. Depends on what field you're in. If you are in health care, engineering, research, construction, finance, you'll be OK. Nice neighborhoods all over the place, depending on your preference. Traffic is much better than SoCal, but the hills, rivers and valleys make it a must to know your path. It also makes it interseting, though, and there are fantastic views from some neighborhoods. Lots of new commercial and housing development in the East End of the city, which is also the most cosmopolitan part of town.
