I am looking to relocate to pittsburgh, and looking for advice on a good area, with young families etc with kids, good schools. I realize this is a broad question, but just would appreciate some direction on where to start looking. We're starting over in life from scratch, with my wife and 3 daughters, and have always wanted to move to the burgh.

Schools are important, and "safer" areas.

Those are some good affordable suburbs. You might also want to try Westview. You can also look into some neighborhoods in the city proper, which are safe and affordable. And I don't personally think the city school system is as bad as it's made out to be, plus it's known for some improvements lately.

yes, at first. We want to start over and get a fresh start. I have three beautiful daughters and schools and neighborhood are my primary concern. My oldest is a hardcore steeler fan (shes 13) and hasnt missed a game with me for 3 years, so shes excited about moving out there if we can find a job. I figure find a job, rent at first, find where it feels like home and move again.

I've wanted to move there for years and years. I hope we can pull it off.

Most of the northern suburbs are all pretty nice with good schools... ross township, wexford, allison park, shaler, etc. $1500/month for rent should be okay there.

Default I need some help too!

I am about to retire and trying to find that perfect place to buy a house. We are an Italian-American family with 2 children 13 & 16 from Long Island. There are many wonderful neighborhoods in the area. I'm so confused!
I like Dormont for the T and walkability but there is no supermarket within walking distance. My wife don't drive. Also, taxes are high.
I saw some real bargains in Monongahela and it seems walkable and there is good bus service to the city. This seems to be a charming, soulful, offbeat city. Is it safe?
Greensburg and Latrobe also look promising. There seems to be some big old houses for good prices and the taxes are lower.
Are these good areas - safety, walkability to supermarkets, etc?
I briefly visited Dormont, Mount Leb., Bellevue, Crafton & Greensburg and liked all these areas.
Does anyone know a good, caring realtor who can help me fine the best place for my family?
