Yeah, I saw that article in the Post-Gazette online, and then KDKA came out to interview the manager this afternoon. Should be on tonight's news or maybe tomorrow.

No big whoop.... again.... the ones who've closed are all merchants who already had money-flow problems. Gap Inc's problems are long-known by all in retail, so the Old Navy loss isn't a surprise, and the rest of them. . . . well, all you have to do is read the Post-Gazette article or watch the KDKA interview, to hear about them....

I'll say it again, loud-n-proud:

CENTURY III WILL BE HERE FOR YOU, FOR A LONG TIME TO COME!

And hopefully. . . . . the crisis will help us rebirth ourselves into something new and exciting.... I suggest a Flea Market in one of the old anchor stores.... and I know a new consignment shop is coming in February 1st, into the old space Steve & Barry's left....

The writing is on the wall... as soon as they can find a buyer for the building I'm sure they will sell... The only reason they're still open is probably because it would cost more to have the building sitting there idle...but that may change with all of the recent store closures.

Oh boy - a flea market! As Century III slowly turns into Eastland Mall. And if it follows in those footsteps........

Eastland Mall is what I think of too when flea markets are mentioned. It's a last resort announcing the end is near.

I'll agree with this, wholeheartedly. Simon wants to sell, but in this economy, there's no buyers.

Interesting article in this week's Pittsburgh Business Times, showing how retail has been the third hardest-hit industry during this recession, right after construction & banking...

Of course, a sure sign o' the times, is that NO malls are really doing well right now; not even the uper-tier ones....

Default No Retail Doing Well?

Have you seen South Hills Village? How about Ross Park Mall? BOTH of those malls are adding new tennants despite the economy, neither mall Is adding consignment shops, neither mall has made front page news, actually Simon Property Group has been adding space to both Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village, they are comitted to both projects while they allow an exodus of their tennants at Century 3 with no long term plans except to continue to tell Pittsburgh consumers that Century 3 Mall does not deserve a real mall and allow nothing but negative press to hurt traffic at their already wounded mall. Thanks to the bleak picture that Simon has created at Century 3 Mall I dont believe that anyone would ever buy that mall to operate It as a reail center.

Or Laurel Mall between Uniontown and Connellsville on Rt 119. Near death for years, even before anchors Wards and Ames went out of business. But Pechins Market took over the old Wards space and an investor was found to buy the rest and turn it into a flea market. No doubt the building will receive proper care like Eastland did or maybe the old Jonnet Auto City flea market on Rt 22.
