"The Docks" in Fox Chapel hates kids so beware
okay- so here is the deal for anyone that cares. We moved here a week ago from ct and live in a corporate apt at "The Docks" which is next to Fox Chapel Yacht Club. It's fairly big and advertised as a "luxury apt complex" ..yeah,, I don't think so. Anyway, everyone just got a very stern letter from management about CHALK DRAWING on sidewalks by kids and that this must stop or else letter. Here's the thing. There are very few kids here. The dogs outnumber the kids 100 to 1. The dogs poo everywhere so your kids can't play on grass. Anyone with kids here leaves as soon as they can (so I am told). We feel like we are in Nazi hell here and I plan to have my kid draw all over the sidewalks tomorrow to prove a point. Arrest me please, I am sure the local news station would love the story. Can you tell I'm having a tough time so far in Pittsburgh?? Oh yes indeed.

I'm sorry to hear that ... but if you ever need some sidewalks to chalk, feel free to ask (we live on a corner lot, so we have plenty of sidewalk space--you'll just have to work around my two-year-old's efforts).

I'm sorry, that stinks. I hate neighborhood and building communities/associations like that, that don't let kids be kids. And they always have the most stupid rules! I heard one, not in Pittsburgh though, wouldn't let a guy park his BRAND SHINY NEW Ford pick up in the drive-way, but the Cadillac pick-up is allowed, even though they're made at the same assembly plant. Ridiculous! It's CHALK for crying out loud! It's a natural, abundant substance, it's biodegradable, it washes away very easily with just a slight sprinkle.
Edit: Hell, I'm 29 and I still love to draw on sidewalks with chalk

The Docks
I also live in O'hara Twp., so I am very familiar with The Docks. There are probably a lot of empty nesters around who no longer need that mansion in Fox Chapel and who may want this to be a retirement community on The Allegheny. They can be influential at times. I hope there can be a compromise, maybe a "chalk zone."

Dude, your next to a "Yacht club in Fox Chappel". What do you expect?
In Squirrel Hill the kids are always out on the sidewalks with chalk. Fox Chappel isn't Pittsburgh btw.

I'll take the opposite side. When you move into an apartment complex, a PUD, or a condo development, YOU LIVE BY THE RULES! or don't live there, it's that simple.

We drew a big smiley face in chalk with a huge x thru it and wrote NO Chalk Drawing Please! We never heard a thing but it's only been a day. As for the "rules" of the complex, I can assure you there is no written rule about chalk drawing. The "yuppy" comment was very funny and my husband and I laughed our ...as*&^%$ off!!! We have not heard that word in about 15 years. How refreshingly simple and yet angry all at the same time. I do like the chalk zone idea! Good one!
