Magster515 is on a distinguished road
Hi,

I know this is an older post but I had to chime in. White Oak is a very safe area -- despite its location between McKeesport and North Versailles. Neither of which are particularly unsafe either. (There simply isn't enough population in McK. or N. Versailles to sustain that many trouble makers!)

White Oak is actually a lovely, small community -- and it's also bordered by North Huntingdon which in recent years has been the go-to place for those who feel the need to keep up with the "Jones'".

Don't get me wrong, there is room for improvement in W.O.; most notably in the council and residents focusing on building up the positives instead of wasting time and resources trying to conteract the negative associations about it's geographical neighbours ;o)

White Oak is still a true neighborhood. In the 'flats', along Lincoln Way, nearly everything one needs is within walking distance -- restaraunts, doctors, salons, pharmacies, groceries, even accountants. There is a good police force, fire stations/emergency services etc.; the municipality offers numerous community events and best of all, it's the sort of place where people say "hello" when they pass in the street. There are parks and a good mix of residents.

All in all, it is a very nice place (affordable as well) to live in, that's close to Pittsburgh and in the opposite direction, close to all of the outdoor 'amenities' of the Laurel Highlands.
