So did Time Magazine. I posted that in it's own thread.

Well then, the readers of this forum will have to decide for themselves who is more credible: Businessweek, Time, and individuals who study the region's economy for a living ... or the guy from L.A. who calls them all "jokes".

If you think about the data in a comparative context, then these rankings can provide some value. Combine those fluff pieces and anecdotes with robust regional benchmarking, and you could draw a pretty detailed economic picture.
Look at this: An opinion piece referencing Census data lumps Pittsburgh in with Seattle, Boston, Austin, and the like.

Business week is a magazine trying to sell ad space and nothing more. These pieces have next to little value.
The readers of the forum don't need to take my word for it. These things are notoriously inaccurate, but everyone forgets about them a few months after they are published.

Are you serious? That is some boring liberal political rant.
And yes, I failed in Pittsburgh so I left. Right. I left Pittsburgh because the business environment was bad. The business I'm involved in is not regional nor was it ever started beyond planning phases while in Pittsburgh. So in what sense I failed in Pittsburgh is beyond me.
But nice irrelevant insult. Show that Pittsburgh charm.
Anyhow, the idea that Pittsburgh is recession proof is almost comical. The city has been declining and has been essentially in a recession for decades. I also, got a kick out of the selection of Irvine, California home of subrpime lenders.... Irvine is an overpriced city essentially owned by a monopoly that has been driven by the home ATM.

BS Alert
Well I'll be. Pittsburgh scores "Low" on the Hardship Index. More proof of Pittsburgh's vitality while Humanoid just offers platitudes.

Pittsburgh is a Rust Belt star, but there is still a ways to go in order to catch up to gazelles such as Austin or even Salt Lake City.

I agree that Time magazine is hardly a reliable source of good hard business reporting. I wish all those weekly news mags would stick to politics and the like. What they report on health care is generally bunk, "a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing" type of writing, so I am generalizing that their business reporting is similar.
Regardless of whether Pittsburgh is a good place to ride out the recession, I would not recommend to anyone that they move anywhere right now without a job. We are saying this on the Colorado forums as well. Have the job offer in hand!
