pittsburghs park system was based on phillys park system but i understand what you mean, its not the parks themselves but how theyre not maintained well. they have slowly improved but the parks dept could definitely use a lot more money...though allegheny commons strikes me as suffering from disinvestment. why is this in the pittsburgh forum ?

These two cities are mutually exclusive, besides the fact that they're within the same state. So it's pointless to compare the two. Furthermore, the "tough as nails" thing really isn't a thing. Pittsburghers are no "tougher" than anyone else.

Need to spell the criteria out clearer, but size matters. Philadelphia dominates, they took PIT's hub right from underneath them.

Although Pittsburgh has been named "Most livable" more than Philly.

One sizeable advantage PGH has, from an in-city living perspective, is that it's easier to raise a family/live in a good K-8 catchment without breaking the bank.

Certainly, Philly is more important on an economic/socio-cultural perspective, and has an unmistakably more cosmopolitan, big-city feel. That said, I would say the cities are pretty evenly matched on a per capita basis. Philly has more by virtue of its sheer size, as opposed to any "inherent superiority."

Still living in Asia, and yes, originally from Michigan. No plans to go back anytime soon, but it's often in the back of my mind.

Thanks YAC for calling me a troll back in 2011. Haha, clearly I was here to stay. I think this thread might have been my first post.

Philly. Always has been, always will be. Philly is really only second to NYC.

Chicago's skyline rivals NYC.
