Default Is N.Dithridge-Oakland grad student friendly?

Dear all,

I'm here to ask you some suggestions on where to look for a (temporary) accomodation in Pittsburgh.
I'm a grad student, and I'll come to Pittsburgh for six months for cooperating with the University of Pittsburgh.

Obviously, I'll be really really busy with my research, so I'm looking for a quiet accomodation: in similar posts I read that the majority of you would suggest Shadyside or Squirrel Hill.

However, in the Craigslist I found an adv that sounds interesting to me: that's for a sublet in N.Dithridge-Oakland (that, according to previous threads, is not the best choice), the rent is $530 each month and includes utilities (which sounds good), but the house includes... 8 bedrooms (so, at least 8 people in the house)!!
The really nice thing is that this house is exactly behind the School of Information Science (where I'm going), this means (I think) that it will take 2 minutes to walk from my room to the labs.

So, I'm asking for your opinions: would you apply for this sublet, ignoring that 8 persons will probably make the house not so quiet, but knowing that the School is just across the street, or would you prefer to find something different somewhere else?
Thank you for your help!

*Pollon*

I believe you are ok....it's when you get to the Center Avenue part of North Oakland that it gets a tad "rough" ie, thefts, break-ins etc... Minor stuff, at least it was when I lived at the corner of North Craig and Centre. I think it's about blocks from where you are looking

Actually after reviewing Mapquest, imo, you are ok in that particular area.

Feel free to DM me with questions.

north oakland is fine. center and craige is not bad at all. it is a little different than the rest, but it is not like smth gonna happen to you. But keep in mind, that it is a city, so pay attention to your surroundings. And if you ever get followed just stay cool and act like you know what you doing. you won't get followed in dithridge , it is just impossible. try to stay from shady places like "Mitchel's bar"... there is always smth goin on. (center/melwood)
dithridge should be all right, noise is smth you can deal with. whereas what a pain it is to get on the crowded bus especially in the winter!

According to the ad:

> This house has 8 individual rooms . . . <

What does that mean? I wouldn't interpret that as meaning 8 bedrooms. Maybe it means enough space so you aren't always crowded into the same one or two rooms with each other, possibly a 3 or 4 bedroom house on 3 floors?

Seems like a nice place in a decent and convenient location for you plus where else are you going to find something to meet your subletting needs? You must have good luck.
