Default Would you live a mile from Northview Heights?

Found some cute cheap houses in Summer Hill. A couple walking on the street at 10 pm said there are a lot of cops and firefighters living nearby along with many families, and there is no crime problem. It seemed to be a tidy neighborhood with decent cars and no hoods.

The price is really appealing but the specter of break-ins or rapes is not. Keep in mind I have no problems with people of different ethnicities but poverty does bad things to people. My sister's part of Carnegie went down hill because of a housing project there.

Does anyone have any experience with this area?

A mile is not that close if the area itself is not that bad. Pittsburgh's topography has a way of seperating neighborhoods and keeping them isolated and hard to find unless one knows where to go.

I'm trying to remember Summerhill name, is that buy southside ave? I know over by the ball field is nice by spring hill school, a few of my relatives have moved away from the southside ave. area, but ones that are still there say its better than it used to be.

Over around top of Rhine street, some of those streets off to the left after you make the bend are nice, near St Ambrose. I know the store there got robbed a few times, I wonder if the Spring Hill bank is still there?

Summerhill is generally the area around Ivory avenue and further south towards Reserve Township and in close proximity to the new Channel 11 studios. There are a lot of city employees that live there which means your roads will be maintained in the winter. I think that area is fairly safe.

The Mayor thinks that Northview Heights is safe enough for his family, so make of that what you will.

I have family who lives in Spring Hill and the part between Itin and housing area and that part of the neighborhood is nice, it is a quiet neighborhood with very little crime. I think the part was robbed a few years, but bank robberies happen everywhere.
I have a good friend who lives in Summer Hill and they say they like the neighborhood; it is very nice and quiet usually. They said there are rarely some problems but nothing major. It is true that mayor lives there I can see his house when I go to my friend's house. All it is a nice neighborhood with nice people in a suburban setting in the city.

My mistake, the Mayor and his family live in Summer Hill.

Yep that's the area. It's on the North Hills side of the project.

Prices are half what they would be over the line in Shaler or Reserve. That makes me less concerned that it's not going to gain a lot of value.

I'm from the South Hills and don't know much about this area. It seems like there are nice areas in Reserve not far from Northview Heights, but NVH has a fairly bad reputation.

The other house I'm considering is in Observatory Hill so safety issues may be a wash. I'm more concerned about my fiance than myself.

Why not consider living in Reserve? That's the Shaler school district and it's a great little area.

I'm considering Reserve. I want to buy a house before the end of the year and they're 20-30% cheaper in Summer Hill. I also considered Millvale but had trouble finding anything with a garage.
