For heaven's sake, guys, it IS the SUPER BOWL - people should be allowed to go a little crazier than normal

Yes, it's true that Steelers fans are a bit (!) on the rabid side, but seriously, it does give a sense of community and group purpose to the town - everyone comes together to cheer them on. Plus, it keeps the local economy going - have you been to the Strip lately? Steeler paraphernalia everywhere! People are expected to spend all kinds of money on food and parties this weekend. Check out Oakmont Bakery - Steeler cakes, cookies, cupcakes, bread.....yummy!

I'm not complaining, was just making an observation. I posted a link to an article earlier in this thread about what the Superbowl means to the local economy.

I have a buddy that owns a beer-thru. He says there is a noticable increase in business when the Steelers are playing. It does help the local economy

To me it was pretty tacky for KDKA to send a reporter and a camera out there to cover this tactful "event." More than anything, it tells me what KDKA thinks of it's average viewer. It is sickening.
agreed. It is cute and all, but do the newscast really need to spend two weeks of coverage chasing people down in the streets about the Steelers, visiting the homes of Cardinals fans in the metro region, and spend 95% of its coverage on the Steelers, with the other 5% covering what the weather will be like on Super Bowl Sunday?

I love the Steelers. I been rooting for them since I was a kid, but can't Pittsburgher's take pride in other things about this great city? We have a city that can be argued to be one of the most beautiful in America behind Seattle and San Fran, we have great cultural amenities, good universities, and much more. But all we care about, and all we show other people in the nation is the Steelers. No wonder when you go to a different city, all they think of Pittsburgh is a dumpy town where people have nothing else to do but root for the Steelers because their town is so rundown and horrible.

^ Agree 100%. There's so much to offer in this city, but all outsiders get exposed to about the city is Steelers, Steelers and Steelers. So naturally, people that don't know anything about Pittsburgh will think there is nothing else to do here except sit in a bar and watch Steelers games, paint your whole house black and gold, or dress your pet in a Big Ben jersey. Before I visited the city and decided to move here, I thought the same.

So people are crazy about the Steelers here, I get that and I'll have to slowly learn to accept the degree of lunacy they go to in showing support of the team. But it's the other outlets like the goverment and media that do nothing either to help the city's image. People all over the country are watching our mayor change his name to Steelerstahl, and any local newscast is 95% Steelers. I was quite surprised when I tuned in to get info from the local news about the approaching ice storm, and I had to sit through endless Steelers fluff before getting weather details. Usually the local news hypes up these winter storms since they are a danger to our area, but I guess they are using all their hype resources on the Steelers right now.

Oh, I had to post this...it was too great for this thread!

The Pittsburgh Public Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay Monday because of the Super Bowl, Superintendent Mark Roosevelt said today.
Noting that Sunday's big game means a "late night," Mr. Roosevelt said the delay should cut down on student and staff absenteeism.
He said the district operated on a 2 hour delay the day after the Steelers won the Super Bowl three years ago.

^LOL! This city is truly crazy.

But haven't the schools been operating on a 2 hour delay for the last 2 weeks or so? It seems like they are delayed EVERY day because of the weather. What's the deal, I thought people in the north were tough and schools only closed for blizzards!

Oh, the little kids won't have any problem going to school on time. Sounds more like a 2 hour delay for the Superintendent, Principle, teachers, and the rest of the faculty to recover from their hangovers.

I am going into the office 4 hours on Saturday and not coming in till 12 on Monday since I will need extra sleep. I think every city drinks the Sunday night when their team is in the Big one. They just don't do anoying "Here we go Steelers" at a Obama Rally, or Concert. That is the stuff that needs to stop.

Does it really matter if they have a 2 hour delay? I don't think it will negatively affect the 50% graduation rate.

Obama was questioned today on the 2 teams playing in the Super Bowl and he said "I'm going to have to go with the Steelers." He said the Bears are his #1 pick, 2nd pick is the Steelers for him!
