Manchester After Dark
It's my understanding that Manchester is not a great place to be after dark.
However, my wife insists on going there to see some artist, so I'm just wondering if anyone knows how rough it can be since, naturally, I'm not letting her go there by herself.
Thanks.

I personally wouldn't recommend it.

Question: When was the last murder in Manchester?
The reality is that while that neighborhood has some issues it is not anyway near the worst in metro Pittsburgh.

Since you asked...
Man slain near Manchester Elementary - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
In neighborhoods like Manchester, when violent crime does happen, it's almost always between people who know each other, and rarely does it involve a random bystanders. It can happen, but if you're not there to sell or buy drugs, and use common sense precautions, chances are you'll be just fine. However, driving to someplace unfamiliar, after dark and alone may not be the greatest idea whether its Homewood or Wexford.

Where is she going? The Manchester Craftsman's guild has jazz concerts and art shows all the time, and it'd be safe around there.

It's also fine around the Mattress Factory and the little galleries tucked in there. There are usually people on the street, especially if there's a gallery opening. Been over there plenty of times myself with no problem. If it's at Manchester Craftsmens Guild, no problem at all because they have their own parking lot with security right in front of the building.

Parts of Manchester are rough and while the majority of shootings are between people dealing in drugs, random bullets fly ! I have a freind that purchased a great home to be restored in Manchester. Since he bought the pad 9 months ago, 6 people have been shot and 2 killed on his street. A crack house is located behind his house, while troubled kids cruise the street from late afternoon on. When cops drive by the druggies vanish only to appear minutes later.
Many times my friend looks out of his house to see suburban white kids in bwm's, suv's and other vehicles purchasing crack from the druggies on the street. Disputes and turf battles bring episodes of wild shooting to the street. Longer term neighboors basically never go outside. It's a bad situation that is getting worse. And Zone one police station is about a mile away.
The Mattress Factory is located in the Mexican War Street's where crime is not as numerous as manchester. Simply put parts of Manchester are becoming the worse violent areas of Pittsburgh.

I need to know the specific street. There's different parts of Manchester. Not all areas are dangerous.

Manchester varies by street. One street will be full of gorgeous, completely restored Victorians, while two blocks over will be blighted and abandoned. I have been in the neighborhood many times during the day and it has always been very quiet. I can't say what it's like during the night. All I know is it has some of the best housing stock in the city.
