How times flies.. just last November Luke Ravenstahl beat Mark DeSantis in the special election for Mayor of Pittsburgh. Next year Mayor Ravenstahl will again run for a full four year term as mayor. Thus far he has no opponents. I have a few questions to thow out there.
Has the mayor done a good job over the past years while in office ? Would another four years at the helm prove to be good years for the city with Ravenstahl as mayor ? Does Pittsburgh need a new mayor ?

I would like to see Mr. Peduto get a chance. Baby Luke will be nothing more than be a pawn of the Democratic machine and NOTHING will get done. That's his job for life if he so chooses.

I used to like Peduto, but he seems to be too much of a bureaucrat who tries to derail a lot of good projects over stupid loopholes. I am more for seeing the big picture. This city needs to get developed and politicians need not cave in to every dinky community group's demands. Am I saying screw the community groups? Well, in many cases, yes. It is easy for Peduto to be critical of Ravenstahl's plans because he wants his job. How about doing what is best for the city and lets put politics aside. There is nothing wrong with debating issues, but when it gets personal, nobody suffers but the city.

I'm a registered Democrat, but I actually do tend to vote more conservatively in local elections. I don't think one party having a stronghold leads to the discussion and compromise needed to turn things around and govern effectively.

Take turns and do away with the elections. It's the Republican's turn for the next 70 years.

If the past eight years are indicative of what Republican executive leadership can do to our nation, then count me out!

You can't equate Pittsburghers with Texans. Possibly you'd have preferred someone like LBJ?

As others have mentioned, the Democrats have controlled the mayors office in Pittsburgh continuously since 1936. When any political party has complete control for that long of a time, corruption and complacency seeps into government and transparency disappears. Take a look at the Pittsburgh Democratic machine and you'll see that this is not a coalition of progressive minds but rather anti-change good old boys who are still living 50 years in the past. Read up on Mark DeSantis from the last mayoral election and you'll see that as a Republican he was far more progressive than Ravenstahl and many of the other Democrats in city government. One party rule, no matter the party, is just not good for the long term health or vitality of any jurisdiction.
