Default Questions about the McDonald/Imperial/Robinson area

We're moving back to the city in July of 09 (lived in Cranberry from 02-05) and we'll be looking to live out on the route 22 corridor. She'll be working in Weirton and I'll be in working in Bridgeville, so we're looking for someplace that would put us right in the middle as far as commute times go. With that in mind we have a couple of questions about the area:

1) Google maps lists a back road trip from McDonald to Bridgeville at almost 1 hr for a 22 mile drive. Would it really take THAT long?

2) Are there any mid-high end apartment complexes out that way that we could live in temporarily while building a house?

3) What ISPs are in the area? Is FiOS available?

4) Do you know of any good custom home builders out that way?

Any answers you might have, or general thoughts about the areas listed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would live in Robinson (Allegheny County). The back roads from McDonald to Bridgeville are really small and yes, with red lights and in bad weather or traffic, they can probably take an hour.

You will probably find the nicer apartments in Robinson and FiOS and better ISPS. A lot of the 22 corridor past Robinson is kinda rural. There is a nice condo/apartment complex off of the Imperial/Oakdale exit (turn toward Oakdale) a mile or 2 down the road on the right. I am sorry I don't know the name or more information about it. I have a friend that lives in Oakdale (closer to Carnegie & Bridgeville/I-79)...I'll try and get some more information about the houses around there from him.

Anyway, the reason I suggested Robinson is because the commute is easier for both of you, not to mention the amenities you'll have living there as opposed to closer to Weirton. Wifey can take 22 to Weirton and there is hardly any traffic problems on it, ever. You can take the Parkway West to I-79 to Bridgeville. You won't really have any major traffic since you're getting off before the tunnels and Green Tree, etc. I'd say you're both looking at about 20-25 minutes to your destinations from Robinson (obviously depending on how close you are to the highways).

I recently moved to the Oakdale area, just off of the Hankey Farms exit on 22/30. There are several apartment complexes in that area off Old Stuebenville Pike to choose from, and you'd be 5 minutes away from all the amenities in Robinson. It does NOT take 1 hour to get to Bridgeville from here, not even close. I can take 22/30 to I79 and get to Bridgeville in 20 minutes, or about 25 minutes through the back roads. My apartment is currently wired for FIOS, as are most in this area.

Oakdale to Bridgeville is only 15 minutes, maybe 20 minutes from McDonald to Bridgevlle via backroads. You should have no problem getting FiOS inthe areas and there plenty of decent apartments around.
