You guys have no clue on state of city or region for that matter. NYC is on the verge of collapsing, Philadelphia is Broke! Pittsburgh is hot. The fact that we are stealing Jobs from other Mid-west and NE cities is truely amazing....Pittsburgh is also becoming hollywood of the East 6 feature films in a years time. Pittsburgh Film Industry Discussion - SkyscraperPage Forum.
Pittsburgh's time is now, if it ever hopes to shakes it Rust Belt past.....Pittsburgh still however needs something to draw attention to it. Here in NY when I tell people that I'm from the burgh, I usaually get a reply of "Never Been" "I hear its very cheap cost of living" and the famous "Go Steelers or Pens" ...It needs to host something big, or get a national attraction to get some eyes on it....Same thing the Olympics did for Atlanta.

I would just suggest staying on SSP. There are many good posters on this board that post great info on Pittsburgh and respect other people's cities.
However there are many trolls and negative people on this board that feel the need to go to other city's threads to make baseless trolling attacks. I don't mind people's opinions, but post like forumers such as UglyPittsburgh and that oblwhatever guy in that other thread are why this forum is so weak compared to SSP. On SSP they moderate the board to keep City vs City, City bashing, and baseless trolling away. Here they moderate the board to give me a suspension for making fun of myself, using sarcasm, etc, but UglyPittsburgh is completely inline.
I got a three day suspension for joking with Katina in the political forum by calling myself a "appalacian mountain hick" I called myself that, added a afterwards, and I got two infractions from two mods. Rediculous. On SSP stuff like that wouldn't happen, but these 12 year old trolls that come on here and make stupid and may I say, STUPID attacks on people's cities are completely allowed on this forum.
I come here more for entertainment, and post more realistically on SSP.

Pittsburgh job growth is slow, that isn't a boom. Pittsburgh's reaction to downturns is typical delayed. This is nothing new.
And this is a forum. I'm allowed to post my views about Pittsburgh regardless of whether you agree with them.

That's what I can think of about nasty LA which like the rest of California native born Americans are fleeing with migration within the country give a net decrease of 950,592 people in California from 2000 to 2006.

Do you think you are going to hurt my feelings by bashing LA and/or California? Say whatever you like, I don't care. But this is the Pittsburgh forum, so perhaps we should talk about Pittsburgh. Or you can continue to act like a child.

Pittsburgh is used as a shooting location, there is virtual no movie industry in the city. Pittsburgh is often used when an early 1900's look is desired. Pittsburgh still has a lot of buildings from this era standing. I've heard that they like filming in the city too because the city officials make it easy and the people don't get in the way.
Incidentally, I was just watching the new inspector gadget movie on TV the other day and was amused with the Pittsburgh footage.
Anyhow, Pittsburgh has no entrepreneurial spirit. Its an old wealth city, with policies that favor the establishment. As a result the city is never going to be "hot". Why start a business in Pittsburgh when you can do so in Texas where the costs are less and the pool of workers is greater?
|
Pittsburgh now has the largest production/post-production studio in the U.S. outside of L.A., it's located in the Strip District . The city didn't make it easy for filming to be done here. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania decided to finally get with the times and give the big movie companies the huge tax break incentives they desire when choosing a filming location, and are the ones that made it easy for filming to be done in the state.
No entrepreneurial spirit?!?!?! Come on man, wake up! Have you ever seen or read any of the websites or blogs concerning Pittsburgh's job market and economy?
Humanoid, I've respected many of your posts. Not just in these Pittsburgh threads, but all over the board, but this one is just down right ridiculous.

Yea there is entrepreurial spirit here in Pittsburgh; like you would know being around those hot air filled Californians. Estimates are showing the workforce here is growing faster than the rest of the nation, and while there aren't as many new businesses being created here employment is up and new businesses have a higher rate is staying open than the national average.

Stating a view of Pittsburgh that you don't agree with or that isn't positive is not trolling.
In this thread I merely stated what I think is going to happen with the Pittsburgh economy. Please tell me how that is trolling.
The responses to my comment in this thread are absolutely absurd.

Again, this is a Pittsburgh forum so lets talk about Pittsburgh. If you have things to say about California fill feel to bring them up in the California forum.
And yes....like I would know. I have lived in Pittsburgh and know its tax and business environment well. The city isn't very entrepreneurial. This is a very general issue from government policy, to what goes on in the universities to Pittsburghers attitudes towards business activity. Pittsburgh is bad for someone like me that isn't part of the Pittsburgh establishment. I wasn't born with a spoon in my mouth and I have no roots in the city.

You are trolling because you are being a prick, and trolling is posing online in an effort to provoking others to put an emotional response and disrupt the discussion of the topic. All of which you are doing.

I didn't call you a troll or use you as an example. Chill.
However, you do try to get under people's skin. As soon as somebody post one thing positive, give it a few hours and you will be here trying your best and every amount of education you have to try to tear apart that positive post. Whats the point dude? Its not trolling.

Pittsburgh, which has been stagnant for decades in job growth and median household income, now ranks 9th in the nation! I'd say we're doing something right, and there's plenty of entrepreneurial spirit.
