I want to help a needy family in Pittsburgh
Holidays are tough for many families. I have looked through many different websites to help families during the holiday, but have not found what I wanted to find. All I would like to do is buy some food, presents, and make Christmas time for a family something that they will remember. We are on hard times, my wife and I have the ability to help people, just looking for someone who need it.
Any ideas?

Check with your church or local school... they usually know if there is a need.

If you don't know a church to call...I would suggest St. Catherine of Siena in Beechview. You could tell them your desire - and they can match you with a family. You could deliver the items to the rectory and they will get them to the family (keeping you anonymous). There are many families who could benefit from something like this in Pittsburgh. What a nice idea!

I was looking to do the same thing this year. A friend gave me a name of an organization to contact. (She was familiar due to her church.) This place has kids that can ask for 3 things: A need , a wish and a choice of a book or calendar. The requests were so basic it first, broke my heart, and secondly motivated me to take on more kids and to post it here. I do not work there, I do not know anyone that works there, nor do I know any of the kids. We decided to be "Santa" to 3 kids instead of buying eachother gifts this year.
412-361-7816 I don't know the extension, but I do know they still have kids on their list. I really hope that helps.

As an idea for NEXT year, I once worked at a business that saved up the aluminum soda cans of the employees, and every once in awhile they cashed them in at the recycling center. At the end of the year they used the money collected to make a Christmas donation of the type you are describing.
The result: the cans are recycled, everyone feels comfortable chipping in their cans, as it isn't going into a particular employees pocket, and some kid or family is helped out for the holidays.

Thank you, I will call them today and help. Hopefully this will work out. I love the idea that instead of giving each other gifts, you will give gifts to those children. Thanks again.

Please contact this school
Hey everyone,
I live in Beechview and my kids go to school at Beechwood Elementary. They came home with a flier the other day from the principal the gist of which was
that the mother of one of the 1st graders died from complications after giving birth to a premature baby boy on December 8th. The father is disabled, and the school principal is asking for any help for the family that may be available.
The contact info for Beechwood elementary's principal (Ms. Sally Rifugiato) is (412) 571-7390. The address is 810 Rockland Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Please contact them directly if you can help or know of a person or organization who can. Feel free to forward this on also. I would have posted this sooner but I haven't been to this site in weeks.
Thanks...I can't even imagine how aweful this year is going to be for that family.
