Dog boarding - please help!
I am new in town and looking for someone near the downtown area who does a good job with dog boarding nearby. Does anyone have a someone they particularly like (or someone that I should avoid)?
Thanks so kindly!

We have used Golden Bone Pet Resort a couple of times since moving to Pittsburgh, and our senior citizen dog (13 yrs.) has not had any problems there. It is near the corner of 5th Ave. and Penn Ave. in Shadyside/Point Breeze. They advertise being 10 minutes from downtown, but that may be a bit optimistic.

Yes, there may be alot coming up when one does an internet search but isn't a personal recommendation much better? I mean, our dogs are our kids to us and we don't want to just open up the phone book and pick a place that may have quality or care issues. Your response irritated me, jaremy! People come on here for local help, not for someone to tell them to go google it. Thanks, trotter, for recommending the Golden Bone. We will look into that when we move up there!

We used a place out in Plum. Sorry I forgot the name. Might be on Saltsburg Road. It is not near downtown but is awfully nice and pretty expensive. When we left about 5 people said bye to our dog. He loved it.

We have used Golden Bone several times. the people there are friendly and well-organized and they obviously love dogs. Our dog recognizes the place and he always goes in very happily, wagging his tail. I'll take that as a user recommendation!

Thank you both for your replies!! It is helpful for all of us newcomers or soon-to-be-newcomers to have information like this! It's a good peace of mind to know your pets are being well taken care of!

Petsmart Petshotel in Monroeville gets great reviews from me, not exactly in downtown but right by the exit to the turnpike which always worked out nicely for our trips. I used it probably 15 times in the 2 years we lived here that we were dog owners, since we had to move I've yet to find anything for substantially more money that I'm as happy with. My dog couldn't wait to go there, he would start freaking out with excitement anytime we were even on the road nearby.
Camp Bow Wow is alright as well, there are a few locations in the area.
