Default Colfax Accelerated Learning Academy

Hello! Are you familiar with Colfax Accelerated Learning Academy? Do you have kids in the school? How do you like it? Is pre-enrollment required if you live in the district? I have two boys who will be in 3rd and 6th grade next year. Thanks for any info!

We have a 2nd grader at Colfax, and this is our second year at the school. There are things that we like and do not like about the school, but overall we are happy enough with it that we plan to continue with it. Personally, I don't think any improvements offered by a private school over Colfax would justify the additional tuition expenses.

If you live in the Colfax feeder pattern (we do), then there should not be any enrollment issues. You can find the feeder patterns on the Pittsburgh Public Schools website under schools/street directory.

The biggest issue Colfax, as a school, faces is a diverse student population that includes a wide range of students (from gifted to struggling). The challenge for the staff is to concurrently meet the needs of all these students. When we've had concerns, we've found that the principal (David May-Stein) has been responsive in addressing the issues. As a parent, you have to be proactive and initiate discussions when you think something needs to be address (you can't just sit back and expect them to do it for you).

The PTO has web site Pittsburgh Colfax ALA PTO you can check out.
