Sorry to offend.
I trully love PGH. Lived in the area many years. Love the food, the Strip District, the Pirates and Steelers.
It is unfortunate that some, NOT all, dress in the typical sweats. I have no axe to grind, shooting from the hip or whatever. So yes I do see
And yes PGH has some prominate districts. And money, yes, Carnegie, Mellon. Do I miss PGH. Mainly the Pirates. I loved going to a baseball game.
We will be back in the area for Christmas. And I know for a fact my one brothers will have his best dressed sweats on. And yes, it is his right to do so. Not a criticism. Just a fact.

Sooo.. it is the VISITORS who wear all those sweats you see! LOL!
Sorry, but I really don't see much in the way of sweatpants when I am in the city. And definitely not near enough to be labeled a 'dress code'.

No, my brother is not a visitor. He lives there My husband and I are the VISITORS. I am not really speaking of the city itself. Its the "burbs". As I mentioned earlier, Western PA. Like New Castle, Connellsville. And its not all see. Like I said, I do like PGH. I miss the nightlife. And all the good foods.

One year we attended the fireworks at Point Park. My DH, from Omaha, NE, a rather dressy place, said he thought the people there (Point Park) looked pretty "comfortable".

Reason: Point Park, not Three Rivers!

The point I was trying to get across is that Pittburgh is indeed a center for fashion. High-fashion, like Dolce & Gabbana or Prada isn't the norm in Pittsburgh, but to say Pittsburgh isnt a somewhat influential city in the fashion scene is far from the truth.

One of the reasons I moved to Denver after college was because the people were laid back there and you didn't have to wear a tie to work. Hell, after a month there I stoped wearing dress pants and just wore corduroys to work. Yes there is high culture in Denver that dress up and go out on town and drink expensive wine, but it too is a laid back and dress down type city.
It is true that some cities are more dressy than others. But what some people are describing is areas of Western Pa that are still unfortunetley poor areas, and they dress poor. This isn't typical of PA, this is typical of every poor area around the country. Pittsburgh still has a large suit and tie mentallity when it comes to business. Which is why I actually miss the west, although a lot of companies like the one I work for now is laid back and allows Jeans and shirts at work.
I just find some of these "reasons" Pittsburgh is such a un-classy and slobby dressed city to just be a little off the wall. I see people dressed up in the cultural district just like I do in other cities, and I also see people dressed down just like people in other cities. I think people are over analyzing this way to far.
or actually I should have said, I think people are under-analyzing this way to far. That is to assume a metro of 2.5 million people think sweatpants and flannels are dressy because of two people we know or 5 people we saw at a restaurant.

Trust me, you're not missing much, and I used to be a season ticket holder. The last 16 years has been so depressing, I finally turned in my tickets. Great stadium, lousy team. And that ain't gonna change any time soon.

If you think Denver is casual, try Boulder. DH used to work in Golden, wore dress pants, shirt and dressyish shoes. Now he works in Boulder, wears jeans, casual shirts and tennis shoes.
I have no idea what my bro. wears to work in Pittsburgh, but I doubt it's Steelers/Pirates attire.
