Smile Moving to PA

Hi Everyone...I sure could use help. I am moving from Tennessee to PA to work in Washington County at a local college. I am looking at apartments in Canonsburg or Bridgeville.

A little about me...I am a single African-American woman. What helpful information can you provide to me about the area. Unfortunately, I am feel like I am too far away from Pittsburgh. But I really want to enjoy some of the cultural events and participate in all that Pittsburgh and surrounding areas have to offer.

Questions:
1. How do I get involved in Pittsburgh or the surrounding cities?
2. Are there areas I should stay away from?
3. Do you know of any groups I can join that help me transition to this new city?

Anything the forum can help me with I will greatly appreciate it. I have heard about how friendly everyone is and how they make you feel at home.

Welcome! We'll be happy to have you here as one of our new neighbors. Washington has a harness racing track with a slot machines casino. That's all I know.

As far as getting involved take a look at the web sites of some of the communities you're considering. It will give you an idea of what to expect and where you might get involved. All places love volunteers. You can pick what you like and choose your own hours. Local churches sometimes help with transitions. Maybe join a woman's club. Pittsburgh is a bit of a drive although not bad at all if you're coming here for an event of some sort or night on the town.

Welcome to Bridgeville, PA (Allegheny Co.)
Canonsburg Borough - Hometown of Perry Como and Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest (Washington Co.)

Hello,

i would say that if you pick bridgville you will be a hop skip and a jump from washington and the city of pittsburgh via interstate 79.canonsburg works too.
Bridgeville is one exit closer to the city and canonsburg one exit closer to washington. Either way you wont have more that a 15-20 min ride in either direction.
