Its going to be my first New Years in Pittsburgh. I've been looking for places to go and things to do, etc, but the biggest thing I can find is the fireworks show and the Future of Pittsburgh. What else do people do during New Years eve, besides going to bars, etc? Just curious.

From what I understand, "First Night" is a comprehensive celebration, held downtown at several locations.

Is this true and, if so, are tickets or passes required?

I also hear alcohol IS allowed at 1st Night here, which is cool, considering that most cities frown upon it...

No tickets or passes are required. Maybe for a certain venue, but for the overall celebration, no.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm heading to the 31st Pub to check out some great music. And maybe have a couple drinks.

Actually, the button (which we get at Giant Eagle) gets you into the inside events free.
And some events have limited seating, and in that case, you need a voucher.
