I live two miles from a grocery store... that is not a hardship at all.

Thank you. I stand corrected.

In short, mattm93--you do not need to go to the strip. You can shop in downtown and 7th ave is not more than a 10 minute walk from anywhere in downtown...does someone want to get anal and mapquest that?

Downtown would be a great place to live. While it may not have absolutely everything right at your fingertips, there are plenty of suburbs that do not as well. In short, the downtown area is booming and will only have more and more options as it continues to be built up. I say go for it.

When was this? 1995? You must not be familiar with all the building and changes that have happened in just the last 2-3 years. Take a drive through downtown and see how much construction there is. Construction is a good thing! Look at how many loft-type residential buildings are be renovated.

We should count the northside and southside as downtown as well. Geographically, if it were like most cities without rivers dividing it, it would all be downtown.

isn't the flipside of that equation that you can get msot places by bus from downtown?
The rosebud is probably good enough for a young, single guy...with the occasional flex car trip or bus ride to the strip district. It's not like he's going to be buying food by the truckload.

Unless you live in an apartment on top of a Giant Eagle in the suburbs, wouldn't it take you at least 10 minutes to drive to your closest grocery store?

Excellent Point!

Another great point. People like to refer to downtown as small. Well, maybe it is, but if it were not for the rivers coming so nip and tuck, North side and South Side would not be "north" and "south" but part of Downtown proper.

Just live in the Strip District if you want the "downtown Pittsburgh" experience. Downtown is a transitional neighborhood and there's some stuff to do, but like most development in Pittsburgh, it's slow. My opinion is you should move to the Strip where it's already established with lots of fun things to do and great restaurants and stores.
