You thought Youngtown was bad? Wait until you get to McKeesport.

I wouldn't live in either McKee---McKeesport or Mckees Rocks.

Isn't McKeesport the town where the traffic lights are set on flashing so people don't have to stop while driving through so they don't get robbed? Isn't McKeesport the town that doesn't have enough police because they dont' have the money to pay for a police force?

Why did you pick McKeesport? If it's employment, you can easily find a place to live outside of McKeesport and drive in to go to work!

Stay away from Duquesne too. It's across the river from McKeesport.
You could try Dravosburg or parts of West Mifflin though.

The part of Youngstown you live in, isn't near as bad as McKeesport.
Talk about jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

I agree about staying away from Duquesne.

I don't know anything about Dravosburg.

West Mifflin would be okay. It's certainly not upscale, but it's a safe area that's affordable.

Default Just say no

I work in that area and have been looking for a place to live in the neighborhoods you're talking about.

I cannot stress enough: Do. Not. Move. To. McKeesport. Most of the towns along the Monongahela River are in bad shape. There are a couple exceptions to that rule, but generally speaking stay out of the Mon Valley.

If you are working in McKeesport, you might want to look at living in Pleasant Hills, Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin, White Oak, Elizabeth, or Monroeville. All of those towns are nice (or at least have nice areas) and are about 20 minutes from McKeesport.

If you are looking to buy in that area, get in touch with a local relator, explain your situation, and tell him or her to guide you to a nice safe area with good schools (i.e., not McKeesport).

Why not try East Mckeesport or North Versailles? Or even White Oak which I hear is nice.. I was told these areas are ok areas They border on Mckeesport and you could drive into work within minutes.

Oh dear God, Why?
Well, Im assuming you are moving for employment purposes.
Trust me, if you have kids you do not want them in Mck. schools!
White oak, Versailles is a small step up but still Mck schools.
I agree with the areas that fmullner suggested:
Pleasant Hills, Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin, White Oak, Elizabeth, or Monroeville

Thanks all I will have to rethink this. I work in Coraopolis and was going to do a land contract on a house located at 810 soles and for only 350.00 a month mortgage. Not too much work to fix up the place just cosmetic. I haven't been to see the place yet but will next week. I may not take this place.

I just looked up the property on the allegheny county real estate assessment website.

http://www2.county.allegheny.pa.us/R...gleResult=True

It's given a market value of $20,000 with a D+ rating for condition.

It was bought in foreclosure on 6/30/2006 for $3,823.

It was repurchased on 7/17/2006 for $5,100.

It was repurchased again on 10/20/2006 for $13,900.

Homes exactly like that house in Etna, PA, are assessed at 70k or more with a in C rating for condition.

It seems to me that if you want to buy a home like this in McKeesport, you'd do better financially to get closer to the foreclosure sale because right now you're just giving someone a profit for buying it a few months ago. You could have a house like this in McKeesport (that was foreclosed) for $5,000 if you get in on the buying at the beginning

GOODNESS! I just checked the other houses on the street! Almost all of them only have a market value of 20k or way less. One of them was purchased in 2005 for $26,000 and now has a market value of $4,100. There were no appeals so that's what the property is worth! It's an E rating and looks like it's in better condition than the home you're considering purchasing. It has newer siding. Many of them only sode for $200 and are still worth only $200 without even having to appeal.

Another interesting thing is that most of these homes were sold in 2005.

I'LL BET YOU MONEY THAT THIS PART OF MCKEESPORT WAS FLOODED DURING HURRICANE IVAN IN 2004!

I don't think it looks like McKeesport is an area where a property purchase is an investment unless you're looking to buy SUPER CHEAP (under $5,000) and resell super fast for not much more money. It doesn't even look like the properties are worth enough to put money into them to fix them up. The property in the area isn't worth very much at all. Some of the pictures of other houses on the street are in terrible condition.
