Default Is Pittsburgh really the most "non-diverse" metro in the country?

In a changing world, Portland remains overwhelmingly white - Breaking News From Oregon & Portland - OregonLive.com...That can't be right, can it????

It most certainly can be right. As someone who moved from another state, it's still a culture shock to me to see such little diversity here. Everyone looks like me...WTF! lol

Cool I Don't Agree

Where I live, in Squirrel Hill, you can walk up the hill towards Murray Ave. and hear at least three or four different languages being spoken.

That might be a limited perspective, but there's diversity in Pittsburgh if you look for it. On the people front, and on the dining front as well.

Note that the list includes the entire Metro area, so that includes pretty much all of Allegheny county. While areas like Squirrel Hill may be diverse, other areas of the city, and especially the suburbs, are mostly white.

Pittsburgh tries to be diverse, but each culture seems to coagulate and segregate itself from the others. But we can all find common ground in the Steeler Nation!

Our region is slowly becoming more diverse, but of Metro Areas (MSA's) above 1 million, I'm pretty sure Metro Pittsburgh is still statistically the least diverse, coming in at around 88-89% white, down from 91-92% white in 1990. Remember that Pittsburgh's metro area includes 7 counties, all of which are over 92% white, with the exception of Allegheny County (83% white).

Allegheny county has 1.2 million people and is 84% white. The metro (which includes god knows which 7 counties) has 2.3 million people and is 88% white....either way it's still the most non-diverse metro in the nation.

The more white the better. Diversity is desired by diverse people. Diverse areas have more crime. Unfortunately Pgh. is not the most non-diverse metro in the country.
