Something I notice about Pittsburgh is that it's public city high schools are pretty mixed with the exception of Westinghouse. I find that to be rare in many major cities in the Northeast to find almost all of the public city HS's to be legitimately mixed, regardless of if the school is predominately White or Black.

Even many of the suburban and small city and town schools are pretty mixed too. That seems to be the case in the Eastern suburbs or the industrial towns in the area.

Really racist, even among the caucasians. Certain ethnicities rule. Pittsburgh is just like Philly, but with a different accent.

Thank you, I've been saying that Philly is just a BIGGER version of Pittsburgh for a long time. People from Philly like to compare themselves with NY'ers, which I know ain't the case.

Do you really believe that? I know people from Philly really want to separate themselves from Pittsburgh, but I've noticed a significant similarity too. Why do you think so?

Go on the Philly thread and that's obvious. But I lived there, and it really just felt like living in the city of Pittsburgh. Seriously, it did. It definitely didn't feel ANYTHING like living in NYC, at all! Pa. cities and towns have their own feel to them compared to just about anywhere else.

I have to completely agree. I have never been more convinced that PA is one unified state than after visiting Eastern PA the last couple of days. There are, of course, unique aspects to every PA town, but in the end, they seem strikingly similar to me in geography, vegetation, city layout, architecture, style, vibe, etc.

There are streets in South Philly, that you'd swear you were walking down in Pittsburgh. They will disagree about this fact, but I know what I seen and felt.

I'm a young asian guy (26) who just wants to know if I'm going to be able to make friends and date outside of my race there (city, not burbs), or is it going to be like trying to eat a steak with a spoon?
Do you honestly think, in the year 2009, that you would have any problem doing that?

Especially since there's been such a huge backlash against Asians in recent years.

What is this, 1875?

You can probably include Peabody with Westinghouse because the school is nearly all A.A. Most of the schools are intergrated well with blacks and whites. I seems though in most city schools esp the high schools are all black tho.
