Also, avoid cable. Do you really need it?
Man -- I NEED cable.... I gotta have my daily infusion of NCIS..... 3 hours on USA, one hour on Hallmark, and another hour on Sleuth.... 19 more hours to a 24 hour Mark Harmon day....mmmmm Mark Harmon....

Oh -- wait -- one hour a day for Craig Ferguson....

We don't have cable anymore either -- several years ago we switched to Dishnet and haven't looked back. Outages are very rare, price increases are kept to a minimum, and after 12 years I have yet to call for someone to come out to my house to FIX anything. Any (also rare) problem I have had I've fixed via tech support on the telephone.

But we really are TV junkies. Even when I quilt I usually am watching/listening to to something -- usually old Dick Van Dyke shows on DVD.....

My house came with a dish, but we haven't gotten the service yet. I'm a Netflix junkie.

I have bare-bones cable (was $15, now $10/month) plus Tivo and Netflix. The three of them total about $42 per month and I still have a backlog of things to watch.

You almost need bare-bones cable here. Because of the hills, the reception is awful. I got lucky though, living about a quarter-mile from most of the antennas.

Also don't drink coffer... so no Starbucks to eliminate. No cell phone either...

I ended up getting a cell phone because the new "kid" property manager couldn't get the hang of the pager. He kept telling me I wasn't getting his pages. I finally figured out you couldn't just hit the phone number and hang up, you had to wait for the beeps or press pound.

But then the property started having problems where it sure sould be nice to have a camera to explain what ever.... so I got a camera phone.

With apologies to Pittsburgh readers....regarding antennas -- in the 89 quake we lost cable, but not power -- and we could still get channel 5.... Dave McElhatton really made me feel that everything was going to be okay....
