I have lived in pittsburgh my whole life and i dont know your price range but Peter Township offers a great schooling and there is quite a bit of things to do, I own a german shepherd who is 100 lb, and there are things to do with the dogs. In peters township there is Peters trail to go walking your dog, biking, roller blading and such. They have the rec. center which inside there is a walking arena, basket ball court, volley ball court and tennis court and outside the rec center there is a bike/skate boarding park, then they have the peters wood park which is jsut a normal park, We also have a huge library, and lastly my favorite they have peters wood lake, I take my dog there to go walking around the lake and to go swimming its absolutely beautiful there.

If you are the people who are looking at the place on Barth I can assure you the owners do like you. I live across the street and will miss them but looking forward to older kids. I have a son in 9th and a daughter in 5th. They are just busy planning the move and they have many babies, so crazy over there. We also have a dog, who loves everyone. This is a great location as the Trolley into the city is down the street and all the Great schools withing 4 blocks. HS is 4 blocks away, Middle school about a block or 2. I came from Portland Or, in the city, so it is an adjustment but I love it for the kids. This community is really lovely! Do you geocache, hike and bike with your kids or do they just like city stuff. Pittsburgh has a lot to offer if you just look around and Mt Lebanon is a great location, close in but still a green feel.

Thank you for your kind comments.

I hike with my dog (kids optional) and geocaching has not really caught on here, so we've never done it. I think it sounds like fun.

We are coming to Pittsburgh later this week to check it out. All of us are excited about seeing the city that will be our new home.

Thank you for the information. Peter Twp sounds like a great place, and we will be sure to check it out.

My dog loves to go places, so it's nice to hear that there are plenty of things for him to do (with me along, of course).

Also look into McCandless and Allison Park...you would be very North Park - near the lake, the walking / running trail, driving range, etc. Also very near shopping areas, etc. The school district, North Allegheny is a very good one and your kids would have lots of chances and choices in school. Very big football school and they would love the atmosphere.

Isn't Allison Park served by Hampton?

Allison Park spans a significant part of Hampton, Shaler and North Allegheny -- there might even be a street or two in Pine/Richland.

You can go to a place like Shadyside or Mt. Lebanon and spend more and get less house, or you can move about 20 miles north of the city to Cranberry or Adams Twp and get a first class townhouse for $1,000-$1,300. There is plenty of stuff nearby in Cranberry, plus North Park is nice too. Also, Rt.79, the PA turnpike, and rt279 are real close and it's a breeze getting into the city from the north suburbs. Also, cranberry has Seneca Valley schools, which are pretty good too.
