Haha. Strange I was visiting Pittston during that time you were here. I am moving to Philly for a lucrative job with the federal government as well and had to run home to the family homestead to drop stuff off and switch borrow the folks van to move more stuff. I am really going to miss this city, it's really become my home over the past 7 years.... but I've been out of work since July and I can't turn down a great opportunity.
The people here have low city self-esteem and are always looking for acceptance. My father always notes how the drivers here are different than those in NEPA.
So do you think that Pittsburgh also seems just like a big Scranton?

Great shots and what a cool looking old city! I live in California and we have nothing like that here - so much character. If I'm ever in that region of the country I'll have to take a couple days to check it out.

Definitely do not limit yourself on time though. My friend and I drove in for 4.5 hours on Wednesday, arriving around lunch time. We then left before dinner on Thursday evening because I had a sudden job interview scheduled back in the Scranton area for early Friday morning. We feel blessed to have been able to explore as much of the city as we did, but I feel "cheated" that I didn't get to see the zoo, a Penguins game, Point State Park, the Andy Warhol Museum, take the incline car, see more of Shadyside, etc., etc. We should have stayed for four days and three nights, stopping at Fallingwater (Frank Lloyd Wright's home built atop a waterfall) on the way home.

I love Fallingwater! When you get a chance, explore the rural areas in southwestern PA. The areas around Uniontown are breathtaking. (Not Uniontown city though..lol) One of my most favorite spots is Friendship Hill outside of Point Marion (not far from the WV border).
I'm glad you enjoy your time in Pittsburgh. I live about 2 hours to the south but Pittsburgh is where I go for my big city excitement and where I must go for flights. It's a great city overall.

I beg to differ. Pittsburgh is a much older city than SF, but much of its architecture is from the Victorian/turn-of-the-century like SF. Pittsburgh reminds me a lot of SF. I think that's why I like it so much.

I really enjoyed your photos... makes me homesick for the Burgh. By the way that "winding road coming down from Mt Washington was Sycamore Street, not McArdle Roadway. PJ goes pretty much a straight shot up the mountain side. I've walked up both of them - I would know.

ehhhh I live in Detroit and drive a VW... I dodge bricks on the way to work, but still.
The burgh is much more friendly to the imports (I had a VW when I lived there too, I'm brain washed).
Loved the pics, I'm going to show the folks at work what a "hill" looks like! Makes me homesick...

What's up Alex, never thought I'd see you here!
Pittsburgh is definitely a VW town. We never go anywhere without seeing multiple VW's of all generations.
