I think Bellevue will do everything it can to STAY dry. I believe it already put a moratorium on converting single family homes to multi-family which is a step in the right direction.

Carnagie on the other hand is not too bad but it is economically depressed in some spots and for those who like grit it certainly has it's share.

Funny you should say that, because I recenty came up with the nickname "Ghetto Sewickley" for Bellevue. Not that it's the ghetto or anything, just in comparison. Otherwise, it's the same kind of perfect small town near the city. Minus the Lotus/Rolls Royce dealership.

Because, as everyone knows, the first step in combatting alcohol use is getting rid of multifamily homes.

Two different topics, I should have clarified.
Bellevue has a ton of old, large homes that have been converted into MF over the last 20 years or so. That KILLS an area, especially when they go Section 8. Add bars to the mix, and Bellevue would be in a steep decline. My two cents.

Actually, growing up there was a period of time when my family qualified for government cheese. I guess I was too young, my Mom and sister were embarrassed when we got it, I loved it!!! A precursor to Velveeta.
Section 8 once served a purpose. A temporary fix for those that needed it, now, too often people stay on it forever. Swissvale has the highest percentage of Section 8 in the area, take a drive over there sometime.
As to converting Single family to Multiple family, the initials speaks for itself. It screws up a neighborhood. Very few tenants have the same respect for the property they live in compared to owners living around them. Simple as that.

I lived in Bellevue for a year and a half up until a few months ago. I felt very safe there (even with the felons underneath me!). I only had a bike stolen out of my basement. There were plenty of places to go that did not require driving, I think that is what I miss most, besides the floorplan of the apartment. Once I got lost on my bicycle in Millvale, it seemed like a nice place to me. Brighton Heights never gave me any problems, as I was on California Ave. quite a bit. I have always said that without most of the people and terrible drivers the area would be a fine place to live.

Is there a website with the highest percentage throughout Pittsburgh? I prefer affordable neighborhoods, but Section 8 completely ruins them.
THat would be a great way to rule them out.

Not sure, try Google. But I do know that the highest percentage is in Swissvale.
