Are you sure about that? Apollo is not all that far from Murrysville.

The town of Apollo is in Armstrong County, across the Kiskimentas River from Vandergrift, which is in Westmoreland. However, there's a decent chunk of Westmoreland County, up in the Kiski school district north of Murrysville that have an Apollo mailing address.

its all the same place. Apollo is not far from murrysville, though it is in armstrong county. People who live in Apollo go to Apollo-Ridge school district in armstrong county. Kiski Area School District is outside of Apollo and is where students from Vandergrift and the surrounding area attend school. There is a large area though that has an Apollo mailing address that is not actually in the town of Apollo.
To make this more confusing, there is The Kiski School, which is in Saltsburg, that is not far away from Kiski Area School District. The Kiski School is a private male boarding school

I finally got a chance to get a close look at Vandergrift and Apollo over the winter and I don't believe it is as bad as some people make it out to be. I went into a couple of local stores and noted the people were friendly. I did not get any nasty looks or comments something that is all too common in parts of Missouri and Kansas. It seems a little rough around the edges but with Pittsburgh finally showing some signs of life it is only a matter of time before the spillover effect happens to adjacent areas.

I think that might be a reach. At one time Vandergrift/Apollo had their own little industrial bases. I can't imagine it going back to those days anytime soon.

I'm trying to be optimistic.
It could happen though. I've seen it happen to industrial cities in Connecticut and even a couple in New York. Torrington and Winsted are two cities of 35,0000 and 8,000 people about 30 miles from Hartford that have been rebuilding in recent years after their manufacturing bases went belly up. And Oswego, NY which is 40 miles north of Syracuse is also making some headway at overcoming the loss of its manufacturing base as well.

The actual town of Apollo is right over the border from Westmoreland County and the town itself is situated in Armstrong County. The Apollo mailing address is HUGE and meets Ford City to the north and Murrysville and Delmont to the south. I have an Apollo address myself but don't live in Apollo.
I commute to Station Square daily via the Parkway East and find it to be an easy drive. With traffic you're looking at 45 minutes to an hour, but without traffic, I've made it to Downtown in 30 minutes flat. The area is close to Monroeville shopping and Pittsburgh Mills. The school would either be Kiski Area or Apollo Ridge depending on location. The actual town of Apollo is run down to meet the eye; however, Apollo is a part of the newly formed FLAG (Freeport, Leechburg, Apollo) revitalization group. Vandergrift has an active revitalization, main-street program known as the Vandergrift Improvement Program (VIP). The area does have a nice amount of history and does have a decent future provided these state-funded revitalization programs work. The Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation actually is managing both FLAG and the VIP. These towns have received a nice amount of attention from the city of Pittsburgh because of PHLF.
Anyhoo, enough of that, the area isn't bad, and chances are a $15K house is in need of work. My Dad's friend was purchasing MANY houses in the area, gutting them, and reselling them for still a VERY reasonable 65 - 80K and the homes were absolutely gorgeous. Can't go wrong for a new family, that's for sure!
