Default Pittsburgh, here we come. . .

Okay, the day is finally approaching for our move. I need some advice once again as we will be visiting there next week to find an apartment and get things set up.

Does anyone personally know someone who rents out apartments that are easy to deal with and have affordable apartments? We only need a one bedroom for now that allows a couple of cats. We are looking at Craigs list right now, and it's like a shot in the dark. We will continue to look, but any input would be appreciated.

If you'd rather, you can pm me. Thanks!

~Carol Ann

We rented a place in Mt Washington from Reed Pirain and he was great to work with. We needed a short term lease and someone who would allow our huge dog and three cats. Granted, we took one of the crappiest properties he has - but it didn't matter to us as it was a temporary situation and it wasn't like it was roach infested or anything.

For Rent

You might try Mozart Apartments at mozartrents.com. They are a corporate landlord that owns hundreds of apartments in the East End. They are very professional, do a good job of maintenance, and can probably find you a good apartment. But there are two catches: a) they are an East End landlord, so they are no good if you are planning to live somewhere else; and b) they charge more than other less professional landlords do. I'm a native 'Burgher so I've never had to use them, but I've known lots of transplants who have and they've all been satisfied. They usually rent with Mozart for a year or two while they get to know the area and then either buy or rent from somebody less professional and less expensive.

They own a lot of property in the East End for sure, but do your research before you rent from them. We found an alarming amount of negative feedback on a number of their properties when we researched on line.

I can vouch for this Rental Agency as I was once a tennant with them. The Property was in Highland Park, now called Eaglemoor. It is located on North Highland Avenue a couple blocks from Highland Park. The units are HUGE, larger than any other building I've ever seen. Rents are on the higher side but accomodations are perfect. Each unit also gets a Large Deck on the back of the building. This unique older structure has windows where there normally wouldn't be on inside walls. There is a Bus stop right beside the building, which gave me a ten minute commute to down town.

The Building is Large, and when the East side of town is viewed on Google Earth, it's easily seen and IS the biggest struture visible in the entire area.

I have to admit this was one of my favorite places to live and I have Great memories of my time there.

Here is the story of how I came to live there.. I was living in a Large Victorian Duplex, just to the Left of the Liberty Tube exit (Bridge End) and on the other side of the Duplex were two Pre-Med students from Duquesne University. We shared a common basement and a common Roof Top Deck. (Anyone crossing the Liberty Bridge has seen it, Yellow with Brown Trim right on Arlington Ave) Anyways we would have common Parties together friends of each of us with the Keg in the common Basement. One Party in the cold of January my neighbor's former room mate came as a guest of theirs. I was introduced to this Blonde hottie Nurse by my neighbors and we hooked up. We dated for a month before we decided that I would Leave Mt Washington and move in with her, over there in Highland Park, at Eaglemoor. Eight months later I got a Job Transfer to Detroit, so we moved to Motown and got Married. I hated leaving Pittsburgh, and I sure hated to leave that apartment. It may have been pricey but it was very accomodating for a young couple starting out together. She was close to her Job and I took the bus into town for mine. It was an incredible time.

guylocke, where have you been? I've missed you! Are you back in Pittsburgh, or still in Seattle, or somewhere else?
