US Steel in Clairton polluting Pittsburgh
Monongahela Valley wind bad for lungs, CMU says - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Pittsburgh likes to think it cleaned up its act - and the polluting plants are gone but obviously its not true. Buffalo is an example of a clean city.
Does anyone know what direction the prevailing winds are out of Clairton?

I read that article too. They showed a illustration that indicated the winds come from the southeast and from Ohio into Pittsburgh.
Pretty sad that the area is still subjected to this kind of pollution

Well SOMETIMES the wind comes from that direction. I'm more concerned with the other times because I was thinking of getting a summer home in the valley.

Buffalo?...lol lol lol If losing industry is your definition of "cleaning up it's act", ya Buffalo, is doing a GREAT JOB with that!.....

Yes Clairton does pollute, but they make coke used for making steel - important for US economy and jobs.
Also, Clairton has a plan in the works for a new furnace that will cut particle pollution by 58% in the next couple years. That is significant.

And does anyone care that U.S. Steel is investing 1.2 BILLION dollars in the plant in this wretched economy to upgrade it and cut way down on the pollution?

Steelerfan - had you actually studied the effects of this pollution you would be more enlightened. Polluters count on places with low education and economic hardship to get away with what they do.
The upgrades are nice but they don't go far enough. The town I live in is solidly GOP and conservative yet we don't allow polluters because we know more people want to move to a clean area.
We are growing rapidly -while Pittsburgh is declining.

so wait, The GOP Conservatives are the ones against pollution and forcing green energy? Ahhh, I see.
I am from Pittsburgh, so as said above, I don't have any education and I don't have a job. This means I vote democratic and don't care about companies who pollute or creating green energy.
