Rochester PA...son needs furniture, etc..
Well, my son and girlfriend will be moving into their rental house this coming Saturday (in Rochester) Needless to say I am terrified, worried, thinking the worst scenario, the list goes on and on (motherhood is definitely exhausting). Her parents are driving up with them (from Richmond VA)...hauling what little furniture they have with them. Could someone please direct me to places where these two could get furniture, etc...that will not cost a lot of money??? Their "story" just seems to get harder and harder for me to understand. I know I need to step back and let them handle this one on their own, but my heart just aches. Especially for their baby who is due in August. Thank you everyone for answering my previous cries for help. You truly are helping me through this very trying time.

It depends on what you're son is looking for. I am getting ready to move and would like to sell some bedroom and dining room furniture that I have.
I am not looking for a lot of money for any of it. I really just want it gone. The less I have to move, the happier I'll be.
I live about 25 minutes from Rochester, so I'm in the neighborhoo. Send me a PM if you want to talk more.

If he drives through The town of Beaver on route 68 towards Vanport (barely 2 miles from Rochester), he will find an appliance store that has new, used, and scratch & dent appliances for good prices. Somebody help me out with the name. I can't remember it right now.

Groups have formed around the country who share/trade/barter furniture and other household goods. I belonged to one in NYC and it gave me an opportunity to offer all those items that wouldn't sell but were worth something to others (i.e. big bookcase, school supplies, etc).
I found one here in Pittsburgh

And while doing a search, it appears there are several other groups that barter or ask for a pittance for unused stuff.
Hope this helps your family.

Onetheroad, you reminded me of something!
There is a group where people literally give stuff away for nothing.
It's called freecycle. It's a community where everyone just posts stuff they want to give away.
Here's the link to Pittsburgh's freecycle group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pittsburgh_freecycle/

Thanks, that was the one I was looking for, but found the other one instead. And, freecycle was the actual group I belonged to back in NY.
