Pittnurse,
I really wish I would have never mentioned "the top ten list".To think that a family would pack up and move without research or visiting just because of some list is silly.

It's not your fault, RachelleP.

It was on the news today that Pennsylvania has raised a rank since last year and is the FOURTH state with the highest rate of visitors and tourism in the country behind California, Florida, and Texas. This increase was helped fueled by Pittsburgh's tourism being up, too.

I'm not sure what kind of injustice was done, but Nebraska didn't make the cut.

Not even with Omaha.

SCANDALOUS!!

When I have more time today, I'll provide additional information on the arts for both cities.
According to the Nabraska Arts Council's website, Omaha is home to only one professional dance company, the Omaha Theater Ballet. Furthermore, it's the only professional dance company in the entire state of Nabraska.

Pittsburgh has MULTIPLE professional dance companies.
Omaha has only one professional dance company.

Pittsburgh's dance artists are international.
Omaha's dance artists are from North America.

The Pittsburgh Ballet Company is recognized as one of the world's leading dance companies.
The Omaha Theater Ballet's website doesn't mention worldwide recognition.

The Pittsburgh Ballet Company tours worldwide.
The Omaha Theater Ballet doesn't tour.

Should I continue comparing the various arts available in Pittsburgh and Omaha?

I have full confidence that Pittsburgh will outshine Omaha in every category of the arts.

Here a couple little interesting blubs I foung real quick.

The most visible institutions of higher education in Pittsburgh are the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University. The University of Pittsburgh, ranked in the top 25 public universities in US News & World Report, has its strengths in philosophy of science, Asian studies, business, philosophy, law, engineering, and medical care. Carnegie Mellon University is ranked in the top 25 of national universities in US News & World Report; the university's strengths include computer science, drama, business, public policy, engineering, design, art, and architecture.

Robert Morris University, based in the suburb of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, maintains a satellite center in downtown Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Public School teachers are paid well relative to their peers, ranking 17th in 2000–2001 among the 100 largest cities by population for the highest minimum salary offered to teachers with a BA ($34,300). Pittsburgh ranked fifth in the highest maximum salary offered to teachers with an MA ($66,380). Local public schools include many charter and magnet schools, including City Charter High School (computer and technology focused), Pittsburgh Montessori School (formerly Homewood Montessori), Pittsburgh Gifted Center, Frick International Studies Academy, Rogers Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and several schools for blind, deaf, or otherwise challenged children.

Private schools in Pittsburgh include Seton-La Salle Catholic High School, a merger of the former South Catholic and Elizabeth Ann Seton High Schools. Located in the South Hills, Seton-La Salle is the highest enrolled co-educational high school in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Central Catholic High School, which is run by the Christian Brothers of St. John the Baptist De La Salle. Oakland Catholic High School, an all-girls high school, is located less than two blocks away from Central Catholic High School. Both high schools are located in Oakland. The Shadyside neighborhood includes Winchester Thurston School and The Ellis School (an all-girls school). Shady Side Academy, whose main campuses are located in Fox Chapel, has a junior high school in the neighborhood of Point Breeze.

and

In 2004, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Gilbert Levine became the first American orchestra to play for the Pope[10]. Their performance included the world premiere of John Harbison's "Abraham" as well as movements I, IV, and V from the Mahler Symphony No. 2[11], and Pope John Paul II personally requested an encore at the performance.

I'm getting ready to go out, but I took a quick peek. Omaha is pdf for schedule. But I got so excited when I looked at Pittsburgh because they have Riverdance that I lost my head and forgot why I was looking.

Until later.

Okay, guys.

I'll do symphony and theater as time permits. Anything else?

btw, I was comparing medical schools since the comment was made that people act like the University of Pittsburgh is Harvard.

I don't have the final medical school data compiled yet but so far it's not looking good for Omaha.
