I found this website too: Urban Planning Career & Internship Resources: All Listings I'm not sure if the one listed for transportation planning in Pittsburgh is a job opening or an internship. The dealine is December 30, 2009, which indicates it might be an internship.

And this: The Department of City Planning provides a number of for credit/for experience unpaid internships for both graduate and undergraduate students

Here's a list of the internships for the region. There are ten for Pittsburgh Department of City Planning: http://www.ric-swpa.org/spring%202009.pdf

Here's a bike internship too: http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/cp/...ling_plan.html

Interested students should send a resume to:

Richard Meritzer
Department of City Planning
200 Ross Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Or e-mail a resume to: Richard.meritzer@city.pittsburgh.pa.us
Or call: (412) 255-2102[/quote]

I agree with the other posters that Pittsburgh isn't exactly in the midst of Bos-Wash; but compared to SLC, we are very close to many major cities.

Cleveland: 2 hours
Columbus: 3 hours
Buffalo: 3.5 hours
Baltimore: 4 hours
Washington: 4 hours
Detroit: 4 hours
Philadelphia: 5 hours
Cincinnati: 5 hours
Toronto: 5 hours
New York City: 6 hours

That's about 55 million people in major metropolitan areas within a 6 hour drive. And don't let the naysayers tell Baltimore sucks; that city has some of the nicest architecture in the country.
