Default Downtown Living

I've been thinking of moving downtown after living in the country for my entire life. I would love to hear from people who live downtown about the pros and cons.

I'd love to live downtown too, but I'm married to someone who would never consider it.

Add me to the growing number of people who'd give downtown living a shot! Right now my top neighborhood choice for when I come to town will probably be a loft in the Strip District. If I were AFFLUENT I'd probably want a place right on Grandview Avenue in Mt. Washington!

Living Downtown is something that has really taken off in just the last couple years. Unfortunately, that means you may not get as many direct replies to this request as you might hope (I, for example, have been following the story with interest, but don't actually live there).

I would love to live in one of those cool lofts Downtown. I work Downtown, and I could save a ton of money on gas. There are a lot of great restaurants of many varieties. I would have to drive to buy groceries. So what. Everybody does. If you want to stock up, you'll need your car even if you live close. Our Downtown is beautiful and will get better once that Fifth and Forbes corridor gets spruced up. It will happen. The city's plans for Market Square are major. With the closing of nuisance bars and re-routing of buses, and the addition of new eateries and coffee houses, and the new landscaping of the square itself, will help as a catalyst for the whole Fifth and Forbes corridor.

We've ate at Joe's Crab Shack and Bar Louie and looked across the river many times and talked about it. I know my wife and I have pretty much the same interests when it comes to where to live. To me, you can't beat the eastern city neighborhoods and their shopping and dinning areas that are all walkable, and of course, my reason for being where we are, Frick Park.

I largely agree with this sentiment. If I were going to live downtown, I think RIGHT NOW it would be near MArket Square or the cultural district. I'm not sure what nuisance bars you are referring to, but the area probably does need an infusion of well run places. there are a few, notably six penn, but places like 1902 leave a lot to be desired. I hope that they'll start making this more of an adult entertainment area, and I don't mean naked ladies (not that there's anything wrong with that). places that people who don't want to put up with the shenanigans on the south side can go. For now, you'll probably find your self bying cereal, milk, ang eggs in rite aid rather than giant eagle but eventually there wil be more options. I'd love to see a downtown fathead's but even more, a downtown pennmac. The best thign is the walkability, you walk out your door and can walk so many places, including PNC Park, point park, and the strip district. The Market Sq plans are kind of exciting.
