Hi all,

I'm looking to relocate to Pittsburgh in July with my girlfriend who happened to land a nice research job in the area.

I am a multimedia artist and occasionally work in the film industry in various positions. I was wondering if any locals that post here know if there is a half decent chance of finding work related to graphic design, art, or even film and television (as a PA, grip, videographer and the like).

I have noticed that many of the news stations in Pgh force job seekers to use some kind of byzantine online application form, so I am not hoping for much in that area.

I'd start by talking to the Pittsburgh Film Office:

The Pittsburgh Film Office

Pittsburgh has evolved into sort of a film hub over the years.

There are a number of design firms in the area, but how easy it is for you to find work depends on how good you are! The local firms have a constant supply of talent from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon's design department. Students in these programs typically do internships at the local design firms and this is where a lot of the hiring happens. So unless you have a name, finding a good design job could be pretty hard. From my observation, the local students take up all the good jobs and what is left are uninteresting jobs that pay little at local mom and pop places.
