Default Will a Crate & Barrel ever make it to Pittsburgh?

C & B is a great store, but one has never made it's way here. All bigger citires across the country have one, but here.

I know there was a "rumor" that one may go in the new 1 PNC Plaza building downtown.

Where else could a "higher" end home furnishing store in Pgh work?

I heard a couple years ago that they looked at the Weisshouse space on Walnut Street but it wan't big enough. Then there were rumors about locating at Ross Park Mall, which would make sense. Another possible location is Bakery Square in East Liberty, but Pottery Barn and West Elm Furniture are going in there, so C&B probably wouldn't. Probably nothing will happen until the national economy improves. I don't think C&B is considered "high-end," though. It's probably mid to upper moderate priced. High-end would be the Baker furniture store on Walnut Street in Shadyside. Either way, I'm putting my money on it locating in Shadyside or Ross Park eventually.

My money is on Ross Park. It's the only mall in the region that is doing well.

The rumors were that C&B would follow Nordstrom to Ross Park and locate in the "lifestyle center" portion of Ross Park where Cheesecake Factory and LL Bean are. But, Nordstrom sorta came at a bad time so maybe C&B is waiting to see how that does? Or maybe they are waiting for a better spot in Pittsburgh? I could see them at Ross Park, Bakery Square, or even Settlers Ridge in Robinson (competition for IKEA?)

Anyway, if you google Crate & Barrel Pittsburgh, these come up:

L.L. Bean among retailers coming to Pittsburgh's Ross Park Mall - Pittsburgh Business Times:

I wonder if LL Bean is in the space originally envisioned for C&B? There's still a lot of room in that parking lot to add on to the "lifestyle center." I don't see anything else being built until the national economy improves. C&B is probably taking a beating like all the other retailers.

Oh, I hope they come here sometime. There's one in nearly every mall in New England - can't I just have one here?

I'm sure they'll be here. I'm interested in checking ou the new West Elm store going in at Bakery Square. I checked out their web site and it looks like nice stuff. Urban sophisticate.

Honestly, the best thing to do if you have a minute is write to them. It really does have a benefit because if they know people are interested in a certain region, it may put that region ahead for consideration of a store.

And, if you fill it out honestly, they usually respond to you. It's worth a shot...do it for any store or restaurant you'd like to see in the area. 9 times out of 10, they will answer the e-mail.

I put my money on Ross Park or the "sweet spot" in the East End where all the right demographics come together.
