Commuting to Uniontown PA--where to live?
Just got a job in Uniontown, PA, and am wondering where are the best towns near there, within reasonable driving/commuting distance? Looking for live somewhere that's liberal-minded, with a good arts/restaurant scene.
Thanks in advance for your advice !

A liberal-minded area with a good arts scene in Fayette County? Is this a serious question??? Have you been to Uniontown before???
If you are looking for that type of atmosphere, I'd suggest you look into Morgantown. It's about 30 mins south of Uniontown, so not a bad drive. I'm not really sure of any other areas in the region that would be considered liberal or artsy. Other than Morgtantown you'd have to go to Pittsburgh, mainly the South Side, for that. But, I haven't been to Fayette County in a few months. Maybe Brownsville has changed lol. I'm not trying to bash the area, but I'm just stating facts. If you are looking for that type of area, it's certainly not going to be found anywhere around Uniontown.

Bethel Park, of course Inside joke. Uniontown is somewhat isolated from other sizable towns. I mean, if you lived in the South Hills of Pittsburgh like Jefferson Borough. Otherwise, Uniontown IS the town around there. This not like Massachusetts where there are college towns everywhere that may be liberal and artsy. Pittsburgh, as was mentioned, has neighborhoods like this. Mt. Lebanon would be the closest I can think of but would be an hour commute each way for sure.

I would have never thought of Morgantown, WV. I haven't been there in years so I'm not sure how artsy and hip it is there, but it is the state college town for West Virginia University. That really is the closest option. I'll bet the taxes and housing is cheaper in West Virginia too.

Hey thereJust tried to reply but my reply got lost Anyway, thanks a lo! So you think Morgantown is an easy commute from Uniontown? Do you know anything about Cheat Lake, I mean, is it nice there? Also, if I lived in Morgantown would that position me significantly farther away from Pittsburgh than if I lived in Uniontown?

Currently, the commute from Morgantown to Uniontown goes along RT 857 (a narrow 2-lane road through dark woods and hills). There are no places to pass, so it can take 35 minutes or up to 50 minutes if you get stuck behind a large truck.
Within about 2 years, they will open up the RT 43 expressway. It will cut the commute in half!
Morgantown doesn't have much culture - mainly big box retail and fast food joints. Personally, I would never ever live in the Uniontown area again.

It would be about thirty more miles from Pittsburgh if you lived in Morgantown. Morgantown is about 75 miles south of Pittsburgh. Uniontown is about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
