Default The Garden and New Granada Theaters

Has anyone heard what any news on what is going on with the properties of the Garden Theater (North Side) and the New Granada Theaters? I haven't heard anything for a while. I wish they would make the Garden a concert hall.....

vtPGH is on a distinguished road
In regards to the Garden Theater, I'm led to believe that Aaron Stubna's RFP to redevelop the theater was selected by the URA out of the 11 submitted in late 2007. His group's vision for the Garden Theater redevelopment is layed out at the following link...
Garden Theater Proposal to URA

A community planning process is currently being undergone by the CNNC and URA to establish a master plan for the redevelopment of the whole Federal North corridor. The City gov't/ URA has sat on the properties at that corner for decades, and unfortunately allowed them to fall into disrepair. Here's to hoping that the ball is finally moving, and that this push won't be another false start.

The Garden Theater revovation was a key element to the FedNorth Project that dates back about a decade to the Murphy administration. The Garden Theater owner fought against Murphy's threats to take it by eminent domain. Eventually, he decided to sell.
FedNorth never has really gotten off of the ground. It was envisioned as an artsy area with galleries and coffee houses and boutiques shops with the Garden Theater being the key acquisition. The Garden Theater was envisioned as a Harris Theater type place showing foriegn films and art films. I eventually see East Ohio Street and Fed North improving just like East Liberty. Hopefully an improved North Shore will create on overflow to spill over to those buisiness districts.

I read on another forum about a week ago that the Garden theater renovation is going to get back on track due to the federal stimulus package. It is a small chunk of the money the Pittsburgh region is getting, but it will get it going.
