Default Moving to Pittsburgh in May - Baldwin Area??

I need help - my husband just got a job in downtown Pittsburgh. We need to move by Memorial Day weekend. We found a house we really like in the Baldwin area - can anyone tell me more about the area? The neighborhood seemed older but very nice and quiet. The commute from downtown was easy. We have a young child and will need daycare for her. I'd love more information on this area - good or bad.

If you don't recommend this area do you have any suggestions for finding a rental house? We've been using Craig's List without much luck. We tried two property management companies - one was unresponsive and the ohter was rude and unhelpful. We think if we don't get this rental house we want to look in the North Hills area but we aren't finding many houses there.

Thanks for any feedback. We're looking forward to being in PA!

Do you know what part of Baldwin? North or South Baldwin? I grew up in North Baldwin and my parents still live there. Had a lot of friends in South Baldwin and it's also a nice area! The high school was just remodeled and as for elementary schools, depends on where you live as there are several elementary schools. Some are having a big influx of students as they just built a new housing development and lots recently moved into that area.

Overall, Baldwin is a good area - near Century III mall which is not a great mall anymore, has really gone down. But near the other stores on the Route 51 area. But not too far from South Hills Village either. Quick trip to downtown and pretty well located in my opinion.

I'm still learning the area so I'm not 100% sure but it's not far from Baldwin Rd and Glass Run Rd if that helps narrow it down.

I really appreciate the feedback.

Thanks!

That would be North Baldwin - I grew up not too far from there and worked at the Shop n Save nearby when I was in college. That's a nice area, you are pretty close to the Waterfront for shopping as well as South Side. There is a new development they did off of Glass Run Road (near the shop n Save) - nice area back there! Your kids would go to Paynter for the elementary school - I have heard the shcool is becoming a little over crowded with the influx of kids but I'm sure they are looking into fixing that if it is true. Especially since they just remodled the high school. I graduated from Baldwin and loved it!
