It may not plenty about the area, but it does say that, yes, it is one of the poorest in the state.

Show you the website? You don't know where the Census Bureau website is?

It's called "research" using a resource called "the internet." I could have obtained the easily verifiable, factual information just as easily from Barcelona as from Jefferson Township. Just because I live in Chicago now doesn't mean it's the only place I've ever lived or the only place I'm entitled know anything about. You should try getting out more.

I'm certain that this posting had to do with the Uniontown / Smock area. Please keep the topic on track and take your bickering with each other somewhere else!

We're all adults, here. Let's try to act like it.

The Uniontown and surrounding area is beautiful with very little crime. At least that's the way it was when I moved away. The work situation was so bad, you had to beg to get a job at Mcdonalds. Once I sell my Missouri land I'm coming back tho. This state(MISSOURI) hates it's citizens and gives new meaning to the word corruption. Mechanics are needed surely.

While I love that whole area, and I mean truly love it. I grew up there in those hills. Born in Pittsburgh and moved to the Uniontown area when I was 5. I had to leave when I was 20 because you had to beg to get a job at Mc Donalds. Now i've lived in Missouri for the same amount of time and I want to come home soooo bad. I need to sell my land here to effect this. Ahhhhhh Melonis restaurant. My mother was a waitress there for years. Good food if it is still run the same, which I suspect it is. Anyone wanting out , don't come to Missouri. Very corrupt state. The law and the people are against you at every turn.

Everywhere has its share of corruption and, having family in Uniontown area I know IT DOES EXIST THERE! The town isn't unsafe, but the area has bad unemployment and some drug problems. But having said that, the downtown area has been revitalized with several nice restaurants and a few shops. Don't know much about Smock, though.

PittNurse, Sorry I missed this posting until now - since moving to this area, I've discovered just how historic Beaver Falls, and the nearby areas are. I love history, and dig into the history of different areas that I am visiting.

There used to be a factory in Beaver Falls that built merry go round animals. Neat, huh? Can you imagine the craftsmanship that went into that? Also, the Mayer glass factory. Such a shame that it's shut down. They provided dinnerware for many famous restaurants & hotels, and some is considered highly collectible. There's a few other businesses that started there that I was surprised to hear about.

Don't put your hometown down.

blessings, Shen

I don't know what this is doing on a thread about Smock and Uniontown. However. . .
I'm not putting my hometown down. I don't know how you interpreted this post as such. There is a lot of old stuff there that is not particularly historic. It's just old. If we were talking about "businesses formerly located in Beaver Falls", I would concur with you. Sadly, there are very few businesses there any more.
