Agreed. My wife and I both work in the North, only go downtown for the arts and sports. In fact, I have very few friends that work downtown. I think that is a growing trend. With all the suburban industrial parks springing up, I think downtown is losing its appeal. Why spend a minimum of 1 hour a day commuting?

They need to consider HOA's.

I personally LOATHE HOA's.... and I just work with them. I won't ever move to a place that has an HOA. Just something about paying dues turns people into little potentates that feel they can run ripshod over everyone else regardless of the costs...

Depends on the HOA. I currently serve on one board and sit on the budget committee of another. Condo/PUD living is not for everyone, there are rules that have to be followed. I always advise everyone thinking about buying either to READ the rules/regs prior to purchase. Living that close together can cause problems.

The other thing that bothers me about condo living is the HOA deciding when you need to pay money for maintenance. You don't have the luxury of putting something off for a year. You don't have the choice of deciding that the common area doesn't need an expensive walkway.

Again, you want to read the budget and see what repairs are coming due. If the board is doing its due diligence, they have a long range plan where maintenance is done regularly and the money is already there. Frankly, looking at about 10 hours of yard this weekend, my old condo is looking better and better.
