Because for these small towns, that is all they have. They have nothing else other than chreshing memories of when their towns were "great"
Some cities just need to die out. There is frankly nothing on the Mon area that is worth saving.

lol, What are you trying to prove? That Mon river towns don't have "much going for them?" Semantic arguments are for simpletons, bro.
As a supplement to the article presented, Bazwell's point is simply that communities in these towns have not yet completely disapeared. Families do in fact live in Denora, etc., and carry on their lives. People go to Church, people go to the grocery, people go to school. Communities exist. This is what these areas still have going for them.
You're reading far, far too deeply into a couple of words, apearently as an excuse to argue.
Unclench yourself.

I'm not looking for an argument. I'm looking for someone who can give me an answer to my question and have an actual dialog without lashing out at me for daring to ask.

The man obstacle would be getting the 6 mayors and 6 city councils and 6 school boards to agree to eliminate 5/6 of their jobs.

And again, your question was already answered.
Bazwell's point was that these towns still have some things going for them - namely, the fact that communities do in fact still exist. Good people call mon river towns home, and go to church, go to school, etc. Communities are still surviving. It was merely a point to contrast the linked article, which paints a bleak picture, however true it is.
That's it dude. That's the answer to your question.
Try to comprehend the meaning of the post rather than keying in on a few words. The fact that Bazz used the phrase "have much going for them" obviously, in this context, does not mean that he thinks the future is necessarily bright, as you insinuated in an earlier post, or that these areas are poised for a renaissance, etc. Nobody will argue these points because they are obviously not true.

Which leads us right back to the premise that as long as these places still hang on by a thread, they have "much going for them." I guess it comes down to a semantics argument after all because for me simply existing and doing all the rudimentary things that every other town does is not a sufficient criterion for a community having "much going for it."
