Default Which City/Town Has the Most Diversity?

I grew up in Pittsburgh (actually one of the Mon-river towns) and I've been living in California for the past 7 years. One of the things that I like the most about CA is the diversity which I know Pittsburgh does not have much of. I've been thinking about moving my family back to the Pittsburgh area to be closer to my family and b/c the cost of living is so much more affordable than Cali.

My question is which city/town do you think has the most diversity? I'm not talking about religion but race/ethnicity.

TIA!

Pittsburgh's diversity, as you know, is mostly of the black/white variety. Some cities with sizable black populations are Pittsburgh itself, and some of the old mill towns, such as Aliquippa, Ambridge, and Beaver Falls in Beaver County. Don't know about the rest of the area.

We find the East End of the City of Pittsburgh to be pretty diverse, particularly Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Oakland and Point Breeze. Mostly because of the universities and those who work at them. In these areas, especially Shadyside, you are apt to see every culture you can think of along with every lifestyle imaginable.

The cities/towns you mentioned in the East End were always known to me when growing up there as the more "expensive" parts to live in as far as Pittsburgh standards go. Compared to Cali of course it would be considered very reasonable but could a working class family afford to live in these areas and raise children there without sending them to private schools?

Are you looking to rent or buy?

The general consensus is that the Pittsburgh Public schools in the Squirrel Hill area (Minadeo and Allderdice, I think) are some of the best.

We'd def be looking at renting first. Buying would be much further down the road.

Plenty of renting possibilities.

If you're coming from California, the real estate prices will definitely be a nice surprise for you. The East End public schools are the best, and the children will meet other kids from all over the world. Plus they'll have the advantages of being close to all the kids' programs at the museums, libraries, theater companies, etc.

How would you rate the AA population in the East End? Would you say it's a small %? We are an AA/Hispanic family.
