PA Drivers rated as some of the most unintelligent.
There was a report here on KDKA here in Pittsburgh last night about a recent national ranking of intelligent drivers. PA finished 36th out of 50.
I agree with this 100 percent. And I also feel that never is there a better example than those who drive in the Pittsburgh area. Some great examples...
People don't take the time to find multiple routes to their destination
People are so "polite" generally in traffic that others assume you are going to let them in, when you may not be.
People don't take the time to take advantage of road closure announcements in our area, end up sitting in construction for two hours, and whine and complain about it.
I could go on and on.

I fail to see what driving habits have to do with intelligence....
I know plenty of bright people who are horrible drivers, and vice versa!

I agree 100%, I'm sure Pittsburgh skews the whole state towards the bottom. As someone that moved up here from another state, I can tell you that Pittsburghers do things on the roadway that I've never seen anywhere else.
1. Slowing down or stopping on the on-ramps when merging onto a highway. This, more than any other, makes my blood boil. It's so dangerous! Learn to merge correctly!
2. Not turning on red when there is no sign prohibiting it. Do Pittsburghers not realize that it is legal to make a right on red as long as long as there is no "no turn on red" sign?
3. General timidness on the roads. Pittsburghers love to drive 5mph below the speed limit and stop to wave a whole caravan of cars in from the side streets. Just move, will ya? Some of us don't want to be on the road all day.

It's not just Pittsburgh, I assure you. We have lived throughout the country over the past 20yrs with the USAF. I can find fault with drivers in every place we lived! The bottom line is this.........it's NOT the given city, it's the INDIVIDUAL.
Ever stop to think that others on the road think "YOU" are a bad driver?????

While I agree that it's dangerous to stop on a ramp for no reason, I hope you are aware that there are yield signs on ramps. This isn't like California where the highway cars yeild to the cars coming off the ramp. Californians are notorious for thinking the rest of the country doesn't know how to merge. They are clueless that the driving laws are actually different here.
That said, it's downright dangerous when drivers come to unnecessary stops. It's important to stop if there is no opening, but some people stop for no reason. I re-ended someone who did that turning onto Washington Blvd from Allegheny River Blvd. Thankfully the yeild sign was removed and a sign saying to "keep moving" was put in its place.
The other thing that drives me CRAZY is people stopping in the middle of the road to allow someone to make a left turn! WHY? You're flying along at 40mph and suddenly the person in front just stops for no reason!
I understand the Pittsburgh left. It's ONE THING for drivers to dare to take that left when oncoming traffic is flying towards them. It's another thing for other drives to constantly give the left while moving on a straightaway. You just quickly make your left turn if you think you can make it in time. These people who purposely yeild while they are moving at high speeds are insane. It's one thing to chose to yield while at a stop at a red light, it's another thing entirely to yield while moving at high speads.
They completely misunderstand what a Pittsburgh Left means. It's meant for stop lights and stop signs. It's not meant for the open road!

WTF is this all about? Pittsburgh Drivers are NOT among the worst on the road. I can a sure you of that fact. Who voted them as such?
One becomes a fairly skilled driver just navagating the topogrophy of the region. Where else can one make a "Pittsburgh Left" and still live to do it again? Don't try this anywhere else, it could get you killed.

I saw someone do this once and was dumbfounded. I was cruising along Mclaughlin Run towards Bridgeville at the part where the speed limit is 40mph, and the traffic was light. I was behind a car that suddenly decided to come to a complete stop in the middle of the road to allow the car in the opposite lane to make a left turn in front of them. I was too shocked to even get mad. I was just amazed that anyone would think this is a sensible thing to do.

The most recent time I've seen it happen the left-hand-turn car wasn't even holding up traffic. The road was empty.
I can somewhat understand when there is a traffic jam on the other side of the road waiting for a car to make a left.
But I would NEVER stop with cars behind me!
That's just CRAZY.
