Thinking of moving to the Bellevue area (Pittsburgh, Avalon: section 8, apartment)

I really like the Bellevue area from the looks of it but I'm not real familiar with it. Are there any negatives I should be worried about and are there any areas to stay away from in Bellevue?

I'm not from Bellevue myself, but I'm also looking at moving to the area. I do have family living there, and have spent a bit, though not considerable time out and about in the neighborhood.

I think it's a great place. It has a kind of small-town vibe to it, with a pretty decent main-street shopping area. It's pretty. The people are nice. The Kuhn's grocery store is always annoyingly busy.

I DO wonder about road maintenance in the winter, but that's something to have in mind Anywhere around Pittsburgh.

Also, Bellevue is a dry community, so there are no bars (to visit and/or worry about being problematic) or wine&spirits stores, so you have to trek to Avalon, or into the city or wherevever, to buy or drink.

Aw HELL. You guys have that crap up there too? I thought I escaped from that when I left Texas. Moving to Wisconsin was a revelation. Booze in the grocery store! Not just wine! Yay!

It sure is nice, when you have a disability that can make you tired quickly not to make multiple stops for various items for dinner.

Are there any maps or indicators of which areas there are dry? And are they only wet or dry? Down there we have spots that are moist, where you can buy beer or wine, but no hard liquor. And down there it can vary by block within the city of Dallas as well as by town.

I rarely drink (maybe a glass of wine or a Bailey's on the rocks once or twice a week), I just hate anyone telling me I can't buy the stuff.

I lived in Bellevue about ten years ago. It was truly nice then; a quiet and quaint town close to the city. Unfortunately, it started going downhill about five years ago. More and more scuzzy people walk the streets now. I get the impression that Section 8 has significantly expanded into the local housing stock. Neighborhoods rarely bounce back from stuff like that. They usually tend to get worse and worse. However, I sincerely hope that I am wrong.

I lived there for a few years. I was able to get a large apartment very cheap. I was close to the city-there in a flash or I could take a bus quickly. The town is dry but they are trying to maybe change that. You can get eats there too and coffee. There are a lot of entrepreneurs who are making investments in making it more viable.

I guess a negative would also be the positive-close to the city and affordable. Sometimes I feel there are too many kids hanging out and there seems to be the occasional purse snatching (old ladies).
