Default Dormont/Beechview

I am searching for a safe community to live in outside of Pittsburg.

Is the Dormont/Beechview area relatively safe? How about other areas? Anyone have any ideas?

Both are pretty safe...Beechview is becoming Pittsburgh Hispanic neighborhood......

Beechview is a City of Pittsburgh neighborhood...Dormont is an Inner ring suburb, that will feel more like a city neighborhood then an actual suburb.

They are in general nice areas. People have been saying Beechview is becoming Hispanic for 4 years now and I was just there and saw only one store that looked close to a "Hispanic" store.

Check out Brookline also. I would say it is nicer than Beechview, probably on par with Dormont, although there are parts of brookline that are very suburban like.

I doubt Pittsburgh has enough Hispanics to make an entire Hispanic neighborhood.

I purchased a duplex in Dormont back in the 80's, lived for about 4 years, then kept it as a rental property. After 20 years the value barely doubled, not a great area for investment. I would have kept it but the Dormont taxes area really high, municipal services are mediocre at best and the school district is average. Not a good return on the taxes you pay IMHO.

As to Beechview, not a bad area, but not on the upswing.

How about Washington, Pennsylvania? How many miles is it outside of Pittsburg and how many miles from Morgantown is it? Is it safe and what about the taxes/and the hispanic population?

We don't have a large enough Hispanic population in Pittsburgh to even merit having a conversation about it!

Washington is safe and has low taxes, but it's not on the upswing either.

You only said you wanted safe, and now you're wanting no Hispanics (when there aren't very many in Pittsburgh anyway) and an area in an upswing.

It would be easier if you let us know your price range and what you want from a neighborhood.

Here's the demographics on Allegheny County and Hispanics: 1.4% in the entire county.

Allegheny County QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

Washington county is .9% Hispanic.

Washington County QuickFacts from the US Census Bureau

Heck, there's only 4.5% within the entire state of Pennsylania.

Can we all agree that having a Hispanic population discussion is totally irrelevant for Southwestern PA?
